Message from the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro on the occasion of the 128th Anniversary of Proclamation of Philippine Independence.

I, together with the women and men of the Department of Foreign Affairs, join the Filipino people in commemorating the 128th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence with the theme, “Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan.”

The DFA is committed to implementing a foreign policy that secures the freedom of the Philippines and every Filipino, both within and beyond our shores. The women and men of the Philippine Foreign Service work tirelessly to strengthen our relations with all countries and peoples, expand economic and educational opportunities, contribute to energy and health security initiatives, and defend and protect overseas Filipinos, among other endeavors. We remain steadfast in serving the Filipino people—both at home and abroad.

As the Philippines navigates the increasingly complex and constantly changing global landscape, we look outward to nourish the many relationships we have made throughout time and place, in order to advance our global interests.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. joins the Filipino people in commemorating the 128th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence.

In his message, the President calls on Filipinos to draw inspiration from the nation’s heroes and work together in advancing the common good. He likewise expresses hope that the occasion will deepen the people’s understanding of the past and inspire a renewed sense of duty to the country as the nation continues building a Bagong Pilipinas “worthy of the sacrifices that secured our sovereignty and of the dreams and aspirations that gave birth to our Republic.”

Ambassador Medardo G. Macaraig welcomed Ambassador Fernando Julio Antonio Quirós Campos of the Republic of Peru to Singapore, at the Embassy this morning.

During the call, the two Ambassadors reaffirmed the longstanding friendship between the Philippines and Peru, noting the historical, cultural, and people-to-people ties that have linked the two countries, including exchanges associated with the Manila Galleon trade. Ambassador Macaraig the recent reopening of the Peruvian Embassy in Manila, a testament to the renewed momentum in the Philippines-Peru bilateral relations.

Ambassador Macaraig and Ambassador Quirós exchanged views on ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including trade and investment, agriculture, sustainable energy, disaster preparedness, and cultural exchanges. They also recognized the complementary strengths of the Philippine and Peruvian economies and the potential to pursue practical cooperation initiatives that support inclusive growth.
