Ageing with dignity, together.
Around 400 senior Zakat beneficiaries, caregivers, volunteers and community partners came together at D'Marquee today for the second MUIS Zakat Beneficiaries Seniors Day, organised by MUIS and 35 Social Development Mosques across all four mosque districts.
The morning began with a mass workout and continued with interactive group activities, sharing by the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC) and the Singapore Police Force (SPF), and a tazkirah by Ustaz Mohamed Fatris Bakaram in conjunction with the Santunan Emas initiative.
Speaking at the event, Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs, Mr Zaqy Mohamad shared that in the first year of the MUIS-CPF Matched Retirement Savings Scheme, 830 senior Zakat beneficiaries received top-ups of up to $2,000 into their CPF Retirement Accounts, with every dollar from Zakat funds matched by the Government — around $3.3 million in all.
He also shared that the Santunan Emas programme has been expanded to mosques in Yishun, Sembawang and Woodlands, connecting more seniors to community activities, health programmes and spiritual guidance.
"But growing older goes beyond finances. Our seniors also need good health, meaningful friendships and opportunities to stay connected to the community and to our faith," he said.
