Congratulations to the 219 newly-minted officers from The Singapore Army and The Republic of Singapore Air Force, who were commissioned at the SAFTI Military Institute this evening! 🎉

Speaking at the parade, Minister for Digital Development and Information Josephine Teo reflected on the responsibilities undertaken by officers and the qualities that define good leadership and expressed her hope that the officers would carry the responsibility of defending 🇸🇬 and safeguarding our way of life.

The parade marked the completion of 38 weeks of rigorous training at the Officer Cadet School, where the cadets sharpened their combat, planning and leadership skills. These newly commissioned officers will go on to assume command, instructional or staff appointment in the SAF.

Turning the skies into their playground 🚀 to the Golden Jubilee Weekend in August 2015, where The Republic of Singapore Air Force’s Black Knights performed a 25-minute aerial display comprising 22 manoeuvres, as well as an opening and closing above the waters off the Marina South area, in celebration of 🇸🇬’s 50th anniversary of independence.

The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and the People’s Liberation Army (Navy) [PLA (Navy)] concluded the 5th edition of Exercise Maritime Cooperation (XMC) earlier today.

Held from 5 to 9 Sep in Zhanjiang, China, the exercise saw both navies conduct a series of maritime security and conventional warfare drills, including gunnery firings, communications and manoeuvring exercises, as well as joint search and rescue and medical evacuation serials. The navies also engaged in planning exercises and professional exchanges ashore.

XMC underscores the longstanding, warm and friendly bilateral defence relationship between Singapore and the People’s Republic of China. 🇸🇬🤝🇨🇳

Chief of Defence Force Vice Admiral Aaron Beng attended the 28th annual Indo-Pacific Chiefs of Defense (CHOD) Conference in Victoria, 🇨🇦 last week. Co-hosted by the Canadian Armed Forces and the U.S. Pacific Command U.S. (USPACOM), this year's conference was themed "Strengthening Collective Security: Navigating Challenges in a Dynamic Indo-Pacific Landscape."

The conference brought together senior military leaders from 32 countries to exchange perspectives on the evolving security landscape, strengthen professional relationships, and explore opportunities for greater defence cooperation.

On the sidelines of the conference, VADM Beng held bilateral meetings with defence leaders from Australia 🇦🇺, Brunei 🇧🇳, Cambodia 🇰🇭, Canada, China 🇨🇳, France 🇫🇷, India 🇮🇳, Malaysia 🇲🇾, Philippines 🇵🇭, Thailand 🇹🇭, Timor-Leste 🇹🇱, and United States 🇺🇸 reaffirming Singapore's commitment to fostering strong defence ties and open dialogue with partners across the region and beyond. Through regular engagements such as CHOD, the SAF continues to strengthen mutual understanding, build trusted partnerships, and contribute to peace, stability and security in the Indo-Pacific. 🤝🌏

Minister of State for Defence Desmond Choo 朱倍庆 is on a working visit to the Republic of Korea (ROK) to attend the 15th Seoul Defense Dialogue (SDD) from 7 to 9 Sep.

Speaking at a plenary on “Defense Industrial Ecosystem and Global Supply Chain Resilience”, MOS Choo highlighted the importance of international partnerships in strengthening defence supply chain resilience amid an increasingly uncertain and fragmented global environment, as well as called for countries to deepen cooperation to build greater collective resilience.

On the sidelines of the SDD, MOS Choo also had a call with ROK Vice Minister of National Defense Lee Doo-hee, where they reaffirmed the warm and friendly bilateral defence relations between 🇸🇬 and 🇰🇷.

The Commander-in-Chief of the กองทัพเรือ Royal Thai Navy (RTN) Admiral (ADM) Pairote Fuangchan was conferred Singapore's prestigious military award, the Pingat Jasa Gemilang (Tentera) or Meritorious Service Medal (Military) [MSM(M)], by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

Minister for Defence Chan Chun Sing presented the award to ADM Pairote on behalf of the President, at an investiture held at the Ministry of Defence this morning.

ADM Pairote was conferred the award in recognition of his significant contributions in strengthening the close and long-standing bilateral defence ties between the RTN and the Republic of Singapore Navy. Under his leadership, both navies expanded collaboration in areas of mutual interest and strengthened interoperability. 🇹🇭💪🇸🇬

The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) is in Indonesia from 31 Aug to 11 Sep for the 5th edition of Exercise Super Garuda Shield (XSGS) 2026.

Co-hosted by the Indonesian National Defence Forces (TNI) and the U.S. Pacific Command (USPACOM), this year’s multilateral exercise features a series of multilateral training activities conducted across multiple locations in 🇮🇩, and involves 14 armed forces from Australia 🇦🇺, Brazil 🇧🇷, Canada 🇨🇦, France 🇫🇷, Germany 🇩🇪, India 🇮🇳, Indonesia, Japan 🇯🇵, Netherlands 🇳🇱, New Zealand 🇳🇿, Republic of Korea 🇰🇷, Singapore 🇸🇬, Thailand 🇹🇭 and the United Kingdom 🇬🇧.

To date, SAF personnel have taken part in joint staff planning, cyber defence exercises and civic action programmes - training alongside foreign counterparts while exchanging knowledge and experiences.

Beyond sharpening operational capabilities, XSGS 2026 provides an important platform to strengthen friendships, mutual understanding and professional ties among participating armed forces.

Earlier today, the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN)'s Formidable-class frigate RSS Steadfast arrived at Ma Xie Naval Base in Zhanjiang, 🇨🇳 to participate in the sea phase of the bilateral Exercise Maritime Cooperation (XMC) with the People’s Liberation Army (Navy) [PLA Navy]. The PLA Navy will be participating in the exercise with the Jiangkai-II-class frigate PLANS Dali.

RSS Steadfast is on the final leg of its three-month deployment, during which it has participated in several bilateral and multilateral exercises. These included a passage exercise with the Italian Navy 🇮🇹, multinational group sails from the Philippines 🇵🇭 to Hawaii 🇺🇸, multinational Exercise Rim of the Pacific, Exercise SINGAPAN with Japan 🇯🇵, and the ongoing XMC 2026 with the People’s Republic of China. The RSN’s participation in these exercises enhances mutual learning, understanding and cooperation with a wide network of international partners.
