Caritas Singapore is the official social and community arm of the Catholic Church in Singapore, and the umbrella body for 25 Catholic charities and organisations whose work touches the lives of people in need in our community regardless of race or religion. We are also a member of Caritas Internationalis, a global federation of more than 160 humanitarian organisations. The name Caritas means charity in Latin, and reminds us to live out our faith through social works. The organisations under the umbrella of Caritas Singapore support a wide array of causes such as the poor, children, youth at risk, families, prisoners, elderly, sick, people with life-limiting illnesses, people with HIV/AIDS, those with disabilities, migrant workers, people with legal and medical needs. Programmes and services for people in need in our community include financial assistance, residential care, shelters, befriending, counselling, palliative care, student care, skills training etc. While our main focus is in Singapore, we also reach out to needy groups overseas and respond to disasters like tsunamis and earthquakes.

What happens beneath our waters matters to us too. 🌊🐠
Against the odds, Singapore’s coral reefs have persisted. Despite decades of reclamation, pollution, warming seas and repeated bleaching events, these reefs continue to sustain a remarkable diversity of marine life.

Their resilience is also a reminder of something deeper. Creation is a gift from God, entrusted to us not to exploit, but to care for as responsible stewards.

As we journey through this Season of Creation, may we ask ourselves: Do we share that same persistence when it comes to protecting life on Earth? How will we respond?

Water, the “source of fruitfulness, freshness, and hope,” is still a scarce, unsafe, and inaccessible resource for millions of people globally.

As the Season of Creation begins, Pope Leo XIV invites us to pray for the care of water, recognising it as a gift from God and a fundamental right that should be accessible to all.

We are invited to join in his prayer, so that humanity might learn to recognise water as 'a right without borders' and to safeguard water with gratitude, justice, and responsibility.

“They shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks.” (Isaiah 2:4) 🌿

As we begin the Season of Creation, Pope Leo XIV reminds us of our call to disarm the forces of military, economic and political competition, and instead build a civilisation rooted in love, peace and justice.

This 1 September, on the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, let us reflect on how we can choose peace over conflict, care over exploitation, and hope over indifference. 🌏🕊️
