At first, I got mad at him for raiding and destroying my sorting bin.

Then, I decided to take out my camera and just watch him and noticed some very serious multi-sensory and self directed exploration activity going on.

My trash, ahem, sorry, treasures cm art materials collection became his toys.

There's no need to teach him anything but I can see the potential of him learning about colours, shapes, patterns, textures, space, pretend play and many other observations going on.

Boss Baby very serious and do not disturb mode. 😆

What a joy just sitting here and watching him learn and explore while taking ownership of his own learning.

This, is what we advocate at Arts For Fun. To allow children to be able to explore and experiment with art in a safe environment and to allow them to flourish as a self directed learner.

Tried using red dragon fruit to paint with the toddler with some baking soda and left it out to dry. Magic happened! The purple colour disappear!

Reposting what we did in 2016.
Using coffee bean soaked in hot water to get brown colour and smashing raw vegetable leaf to get green.

Beet root gave a nice and deep purple too, but try to use them freshly cut, or the colours may not be as vibrant after the vegetables are being exposed for too long. 😊

One of our all time hot favourite art cm sensorial lesson: Painting without paint!

Using natural colouring from food, students learnt about to appreciate the different types of food, how colours came about from nature, and chemical reactions of how colours and texture of a painting changes when we mix 2 different food items together!

Hint: Try adding baking soda to coffee! 😉

Here's another example of what we made using 'trash' found at home after having an AHA!💡moment. 🤩

Here's another example of what we made using 'trash' found at home after having an AHA!💡moment. 🤩

⏳ How long?
10mins! (including searching for materials)

What do I need?
Pen knife or scissors✂

Rubber bands (found from our Da- Bao a.k.a. takeaways stash)

An empty tissue box (or just use any thin cardboard box and cut a hole in between)

How?
Cut 3 slits on each end of the box as shown to secure the rubber bands, put the rubber band on the box making sure the rubber bands are tucked in nicely in the slits. Done!

Oh! And we found a vaccum bag slider lying around and it reminded us of a guitar picker!

And we realized by pressing down on the rubber band creates different tensions resulting in different tones! 🎼 How fun!😍
