Epworth Community Services Epworth Community Services is a Social Service Agency (SSA) that empowers children and youths to thrive.

✨ In celebration of , we are sharing stories from the fostering community and this time we are back with more snapshots of Lucas!*
 
Lucas is a bright and sociable seven-year-old who entered foster care after experiencing harsh physical punishment by his natural family.
 
While adjusting to foster care, he was diagnosed with ADHD, and his foster parents faced challenges supporting his impulsive behaviours at home and in school. With guidance from Epworth’s Foster Care team and the Centre for Positive Recovery (CPR), they learned trauma-informed strategies to understand Lucas’ experiences and respond to his needs with empathy and consistency. Lucas also received support to develop emotional regulation skills and learn protective behaviours to better manage his impulses.
 
Today, his foster parents look back on their journey with gratitude, and Lucas enjoys spending time with foster parents at the playground or fixing puzzles together at home.
 
Every child deserves the chance to heal and thrive in a nurturing home environment.

Told through the eyes of a foster child, the story offers a glimpse into the fostering journey and has been a helpful resource for potential foster parents to introduce the idea of fostering to their own children 💛

At the Epworth Fundraising Gala Dinner 2026, themed ‘Where Hope Blooms’, our community came together with a shared belief that every child and youth deserves the support and opportunities to thrive.
 
From heartfelt music and performances to the generosity of our donors, partners and supporters, the evening was a reminder of what we can make possible when we come together.

Nick’s* journey has not always been easy. Having been in foster care since birth, he experienced many ups and downs over the past 18 years. He has grown into the young man he is today and found his own path to walk with Epworth Foster Care cheering him on.
 
Today, Nick pursues his passion in cooking, actively working towards his dream of becoming a chef and opening his own restaurant. His love for cooking began in Primary School when he helped his former foster grandmother prepare meals in the kitchen. His current foster parents supported him by encouraging him to pursue his passion, and in return, they get to enjoy the delicious meals he cooks every week! 🍲✨
 
Nick creates and refines his own recipes, showcasing his culinary talent in competitions. His dedication paid off when he clinched first place with a dish that he spent weeks perfecting from scratch. 🥇
