La Embajada de Costa Rica en Singapur fue abierta en el 2007 y se convirtió en la única misión diplomática del país en el Sudeste Asiático y en un país de ASEAN (Asociación de Naciones del Sudeste Asiático). Con esta embajada, Costa Rica aspira a incrementar sus nexos con Asia-Pacífico, mediante el uso de Singapur como una plataforma regional para fortalecer vínculos políticos, incentivar el comer
cio y las inversiones, y fomentar mayores posibilidades de cooperación bilateral y multilateral. Singapur fue elegido como lugar para iniciar nuestras relaciones dado que es un país desarrollado con altos estándares de vida, su ubicación geografica estratégica y sede de instituciones como APEC (Foro de Cooperación Asia Pacífico). Costa Rica y Singapur firmaron un tratado de libre comercio en el 2010, el cual entró en plena vigencia el 01 de julio de 2013. Singapur es un país pequeño pero interesante. Su integración al mundo, sus niveles de competitividad, su apertura a la inversión son características que lo distinguen en el mundo. La asociación estratégica de Costa Rica con esta nación nos permitirá no sólo aprovechar las oportunidades de su mercado, sino, sobre todo, aprender de sus reconocidas buenas prácticas. Gracias al hecho de tener una embajada en esta región, podremos seguir avanzando en nuestra estrategia de posicionamiento en el Asia Pacífico, región de gran crecimiento. Diplomatic relations
The Embassy of Costa Rica is relatively new, first opened on 2007. We are the only diplomatic mission in South East Asia. The opening of this Embassy is part of Costa Rica’s initiative to increase and improve relations with the South East Asian region. Singapore was chosen to be starting point of Costa Rica’s initiatives due to its strategic location and potential. Also, Singapore host the APEC headquarters (Asia / Pacific Economic Cooperation), to whom which Costa Rica aspires to be part of. Free Trade Agreement
Costa Rica and Singapore have kept close diplomatic relations since the 80’s, but it was until 2007 with the opening of this Embassy that a new stage of revitalization of bilateral relations started. As result of this new stage, in 2010 a Free Trade Agreement between the two nations was signed, and then, it was put into practice in July 2013.

Its integration to the world, its competitiveness levels, its opening towards investment are some of the characteristics that differentiate form other countries in the world. The strategic partnership between Costa Rica and this nation, with the FTA, will allow us to only take advantage of its market but also learn from this small great country.
