Did you know SP had our very own Content Creation Hackathon? 🧐📱

Organised by Re/Define from SP's Media, Arts & Design School (MAD). This polytechnic-wide competition brought together students across disciplines to create impactful digital content for brands and social causes.

In partnership with NTUC FairPrice Group 🤝🏻and supported by Hepmil Media Group 🙌🏼 , this hackathon showcased SP's strengths in creative and digital capabilities, as well as generate excitement and buzz across campus!

This event was held from 24th April to 4th May 2026, with approximately S$5,000 worth of prizes to be given out to all participants. Selected student works were also featured on FairPrice Group's social media platforms, offering participants valuable exposure and the rare opportunity to have their content showcased to a national audience! 🤩

As part of the pilot batch of the SP-NUS University Accelerated Pathway Programme (UAPP) with the National University (NUS) Faculty of Science, Soh You Hong, our Diploma in Applied Chemistry (DAPC) alumnus got the opportunity to take university-level modules while still in SP. 📚

From managing NUS lessons alongside her internship, to exploring new areas like ecology and molecular symmetry, the experience gave her an early glimpse into university life and helped shape her future study plans.

With support from her SP lecturers and peers, You Hong successfully completed the programme and has since accepted the offer to pursue Chemistry at NUS! 🧪✨

Meet Tristan, a proud Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering (DARE) alumnus and Institutional Medallist from the Class of 2021, and now on his way to graduate from the National University of Singapore (NUS)! 🤩

While he was in SP, he was in a couple of CCAs like SP Debate, DP Makers, and the SP Aviation Club! Even with this, he still managed to clinch the SP Engineering Scholarship! 👏

"I was worried about pursuing a design course, but I realised that following my passion was the most important thing."

For Hannah, choosing the Early Admissions Exercise (EAE) meant taking a chance on something she truly loved. After speaking with lecturers and seniors at SP's Open House, she knew that Diploma in Interior Design was the right path for her.

Since joining SP, she's stepped out of her comfort zone, grown more confident, made meaningful friendships, represented SP at events, and even travelled to Melaka on an Overseas Study Trip ✈️✨

🌟 Innovation in Action! 🌟

Over the past 18 months since the launch of the SouthWest CDC InnoLab, our SP colleagues and students from SP School of Architecture & the Built Environment (ABE), School of Chemical & Life Sciences (CLS), SP - School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE), SP School of Business (SB), and School of Life Skills & Communication (LSC) have collaborated with other institutes of higher learning (IHLs) to co-create solutions that address real community needs in the South West district. 💡✨

From AI-powered tools like Elfie, a Telegram chatbot supporting students with special educational needs (SEN), to initiatives like Support Sprout, an all-in-one webpage for IHL students, and Caregivers’ Day, offering eye screenings and health talks for residents with special needs. Our SP fam are making a tangible difference. 🙌

Other projects include Gap Stop, bridging the gap between bus shelters and bus entrances, enhancing safety of commuters, to an Edge-AI dumping detection system to keep our neighbourhoods clean. 🚍♻️

We were proud to see SP well represented at the Symposium at SUTD! Here's to celebrating the creativity and impact of these projects. 🎉

EAE brought her to SP and it has been the best decision of her life thus far! 🤩

Natalie didn't know what she wanted to study right after graduating Secondary school. But after hearing her friend rave about SP's Media, Arts and Design (MAD) school, she decided to take the leap of faith and has never regretted her decision! ☺️

Learning wasn't just theoretical. She was also exposed to many different opportunities, from overseas trips to camps, and even crafting of programmes. Through such experiences she discovered where her strengths lie. 🗒

📢 SPOTLIGHT Issue 6 has dropped! 🔥

From blinks to breakthroughs, great ideas don’t always start in labs or boardrooms. Discover how SP students and graduates are solving real problems, sparking change, and making their mark.

In issue 6, these made the headlines:
- SP's Media, Arts & Design School marked its annual graduation showcase with the launch of two new industry-facing creative spaces on campus.
- Reimagining primary school classrooms: Students worked with primary schools, to design human-centred classroom environments that put learners first.
- Students developed an AI-powered communication for paralysed patients: a powerful example of human-centred innovation making a real difference in people’s lives.

Ever since entering, he had the opportunity to experience hands-on modules like Technology to Business (T2B) to co-founding BuilderLab, an AI platform that turns hardware ideas into manufacturable products! Jotham’s SP journey took his love for building from the classroom all the way to pitching overseas to investors in Hangzhou, China! 🇨🇳✨

Chun Wai's curiosity about how things work started way before SP. From being exposed to chemical plants during his time in ITE College East to wondering “how are all these products even made?”. That curiosity eventually led him to SP’s Diploma in Chemical Engineering (now known as Diploma in Chemical & Biological Engineering (DCBE)) through the Early Admissions Exercise (EAE). ⚗️✨

From touring chemical plants during his time at ITE College East to exploring modules like Chemical Product Design and even learning 3D modelling & printing, his SP journey turned curiosity into something bigger ✨

Congratulations to our School of Computing (SoC) alumnus, Raymond, on being conferred the Future Leaders in Tech Award 2026 by the Singapore Computer Society (SCS)! 🏆

Conferred to only one youth each year, this award recognises emerging tech leaders whose work creates meaningful impact for the industry and community.

Today, Raymond is building an AI neural wearable that helps paralysed patients communicate, a project that has secured a clinical grant and trial with Tan Tock Seng Hospital. 🏥

His journey is a reminder that you do not have to wait for the “perfect” moment to begin. Sometimes, it starts with curiosity, courage, and the willingness to keep trying.

Here's to building something that makes a difference! 🥳

Did you know that SP students were involved in the Istana Open House? 🤩

SP students were proud to support the event through scavenger hunt activities, cultural performances, and on-ground operations throughout the day!

Our Diploma in Integrated Events & Project Management (DEPM) students played a key role in managing activity stations, guiding visitors, and ensuring smooth event operations for members of the public 👏

Adding to the vibrant atmosphere were wonderful performances by our student groups, including the SP Malay Language Society (Dikir Barat), Malay Cultural Dance Group, and Indian Cultural Society 💃🏽🕺🏻🎶

A special highlight was seeing our SP Malay Language Society perform for President Tharman Shanmugaratnam 🇸🇬
