This week, the children engaged in a hands-on plant exploration, where children learn through inquiry, discussion and creative expression. We placed real plants and seedlings at the centre of our learning space as a provocation. The children were encouraged to observe closely — touching the leaves gently, noticing colours, shapes and textures, and sharing their thoughts about how plants grow. They also shared their prior knowledge on how plants need water and sunlight to grow
Many children were curious about the soil, new sprouts and different leaf sizes. They expressed their ideas through drawing, using crayons to represent what they observed.
Through this experience, the children:
- Developed observation and thinking skills
- Expanded plant-related vocabulary (leaf, stem, roots, soil)
- Practised turn-taking and respectful listening
- Expressed their ideas creatively through art
