Before rushing out to help save a life, ME4 May Seow remembers to grab one thing: a hair tie.
“It’s a small thing,” she says, “but I make sure my hair doesn’t get in the way when performing chest compressions.”
Then, she runs.
When an alert came through the myResponder app, ME4 Seow did not hesitate.
“It was a ‘just go’ mindset. Once the alert came in, I knew someone nearby needed help urgently.”
As a Senior Military Intelligence Expert, ME4 Seow’s role involves supporting analysis and sense-making work to enable early warning and informed decision-making for SAF operations. But when an emergency unfolded close to home, that same instinct to stay alert and respond extended beyond her professional duties.
Trained in CPR-AED, ME4 Seow answered not one, but two emergency alerts through SCDF’s myResponder app. On both occasions, she worked alongside fellow responders to render aid — taking over chest compressions, coordinating with fellow responders, and supporting families until paramedics arrived.
For her actions, she received the Community First Responder Award from the Singapore Civil Defence Force.
