International Friendship Week 2026 @ GMSS 13 April-17 April 2026
This April, we commemorated International Friendship Week with a series of meaningful experiences that brought learning beyond the classroom for our GEMS students.
Anchored on the theme ‘Forging Friendships in a Complex World’, students explored Singapore’s connections with the region and beyond, gaining deeper insights into the importance of cooperation across cultures, communities, and countries. As Asia continues to grow as a dynamic global region, our students developed a stronger awareness of the geopolitical realities shaping our world, and the role that friendship and partnership play in navigating them.
The week was launched during GEM Time with an ASEAN-focused sharing on Indonesian and Vietnamese cultures. During recess, students immersed themselves in traditional games from across the region, including South Korean Ddakji, the Indian Tiger and Goat game, Chinese Yo-Yo, Indonesian Congkak and Galeng Panjang, and Japanese Kendama.
In the spirit of cultural appreciation, staff and students also enjoyed a variety of regional delights such as Lemper, Bánh mì, Vietnamese popiah, Thai Red Ruby, and Thai milk tea.
To further enrich the experience, our international students and their local buddies took part in a specially curated visit to the Peranakan Museum, where they gained deeper insights into Peranakan culture and its historical significance within the Joo Chiat and Katong neighbourhoods.
Through these shared experiences, we continue to strengthen bonds, celebrate diversity, and nurture globally aware citizens who are ready to thrive in an interconnected world.
