On World Oceans Day, Belgium reaffirms its commitment to protecting our oceans, from the North Sea to global partnerships.

Safeguarding marine ecosystems is a shared responsibility that goes beyond borders. Belgium acts every day to restore marine nature, promote sustainable ocean use and strengthen international cooperation.

🇧🇪 As an ocean diplomat, Belgium supports stronger global governance, including through the BBNJ Agreement (Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction) and its candidacy to host the future BBNJ Secretariat in Brussels. This is a key step to better protect marine biodiversity on the high seas.

🤝 From Europe to Southeast Asia, partnerships matter. Together with partners such as Singapore, we continue to work towards a sustainable and resilient ocean that is essential for our climate, food systems and future generations.

🎥 Belgian film shines on the red carpet of Cannes!

🏆 Great news: the Belgian film 'Notre Salut' by Emmanuel Marre won the award for Best Screenplay at the filmfestival of Cannes!

🎞️ There’s more: Belgian actor Emmanuel Macchia, one of the lead actors in the film ‘Coward’ by Belgian director Lukas Dhont, was awarded the Best Actor prize.

✨ And to top it off: Belgo-French actress Virginie Efira received the award for Best Actress for her role in the film 'Soudain' by Japanese filmmaker Ryusuke Hamaguchi!
