Small Islands. Big Oceans. Shared Challenges.

Despite our geographical distances, Singapore shares many similarities with the Pacific. During this year’s 55th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting in Palau, Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishan reaffirmed our close cooperation with the Pacific in areas such as climate change, oceans and environment and international law.

Minister Balakrishnan also announced the second edition of the Singapore - Pacific Resilience and Knowledge Sharing (SPARKS) package and the extension of the SIDS of Change package. These development assistance packages will support capacity-building efforts in line with the priorities of the Pacific.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan spoke with Nepal Minister for Foreign Affairs Shisir Khanal on 31 August 2026, to convey Singapore’s condolences to Nepal following the severe flash floods along the Nepal-China border on 26 August 2026. Minister Balakrishnan commended the Nepal government’s disaster relief efforts and expressed appreciation for the Nepal government’s assistance in the search for missing Singaporeans.

Minister Balakrishnan informed Minister Khanal that the Singapore Government will be sending humanitarian supplies and personnel to assist Nepal with the ongoing relief efforts.

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) is deploying a team to Nepal including officers specialising in Disaster Victim Identification (DVI), in line with Nepal’s request.

In addition, the Singapore Government will deliver humanitarian assistance comprising both civilian and Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) supplies to Nepal.

This tranche of humanitarian assistance is on top of the Singapore Government’s contribution on 28 August 2026 of US$100,000 to the Singapore Red Cross’ (SRC) public fundraising in support of relief efforts in Nepal. To date, the SRC has raised around S$1 million.

MFA’s Crisis Response Team has been deployed to Nepal since 27 August 2026 to render consular assistance to affected Singaporeans in Nepal. The Singapore Government will continue to work closely with the Nepal government on the provision of our humanitarian assistance.

Minister Khanal expressed Nepal’s appreciation for the Singapore Government’s assistance.

MFA’s Crisis Response Team (CRT) has been on the ground in Nepal since 27 August to render consular assistance to affected Singaporeans in Nepal.

Over the past two days, the CRT met the Nepal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nepal Police, Nepal Tourist Police and Nepal Tourism Board to gather updates on search and rescue efforts. The CRT also made onsite visits to Nuwakot rescue base camp and hospitals. We express our appreciation to the Nepalese authorities for facilitating our CRT’s efforts, and for their ongoing search and rescue operations which are conducted under challenging conditions.

Singapore recently hosted the inaugural Singapore-Vietnam Strategic Dialogue (SVSD), which was co-chaired by Coordinating Minister for Public Services Chan Chun Sing and Permanent Member of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Secretariat Tran Cam Tu.

The SVSD demonstrates the shared interest to deepen cooperation between the two countries and sets a strong foundation to build relationships between the next generations of Singaporean and Vietnamese leaders.

MFA Spokesperson’s Comments on Israel’s Settlements in the West Bank

Singapore reiterates that Israeli settlements in the West Bank are illegal under international law.

The proposed construction of residential settlements in the E1 area would further fragment the West Bank and severely undermine the prospects for a viable two-State solution.

Singapore urges the Israeli government to halt these settlement expansion plans.

Singapore is also deeply concerned by the increase in acts of settler violence against Palestinian civilians in the West Bank. We call on the Israeli government to take firm action to prevent such violence and to hold those responsible accountable.

A negotiated two-State solution, consistent with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, remains the only viable pathway to a comprehensive, just, and durable peace.

The India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR) is an annual meeting to chart new areas of collaboration and take our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership forward. At the 4th ISMR held in Singapore on 20 August 2026, several agreements were concluded to enhance cooperation in sectors such as maritime heritage, telecommunications and broadcasting, as well as food safety.

MFA is aware of various entities, including “Kizuna Meridian”, “Global Asia Think Tank” and “Great Vision Consulting”, which have made misleading claims on their respective websites of links with MFA. These include claims that they are supported by MFA or their employees formerly worked with MFA.

These claims are categorically false.

MFA takes these fabricated claims seriously. We have contacted the respective websites to remove the unsubstantiated references to MFA and have also lodged a police report.

Members of the public are advised to remain vigilant when accessing websites of entities which misrepresent or purport to be linked to MFA.

The supposedly Singapore-headquartered Great Vision entity also falsely claims that its “managing partner” is a former Singapore diplomat.
