Since 2001, we’ve called for a minimum wage in Singapore.

We were told it wouldn’t work. Years later, a version of it arrived.

Good ideas do not become policy overnight. They require conviction, persistence, and the courage to keep making the case.

Did you know that many overseas Singaporeans must mail their ballots well before Polling Day to ensure they are counted? In doing so, they miss much of the already short 9-day campaign period. How well does the current electoral process support voters who want to make a fully informed choice?

How do you explain conviction, sacrifice, and prison to a child?

The life of an opposition candidate is never easy, but those who care do it anyway. In our latest podcast, Pong-Pong Palavers, we sit down with and - two of our very own GE2025 candidates - to discuss their journey from musicians to politicians.

May this day be a reminder to care not only for ourselves, but for one another, and to continue building a more thoughtful, compassionate society together.

To our Muslim friends and fellow Singaporeans observing Hari Raya Haji, may this season be a reminder of compassion, sacrifice, and care for one another.

In a world that often pulls us apart, may we continue building a society rooted in empathy, dignity, and community.

Selamat Hari Raya Haji from all of us at the Singapore Democratic Party 🌙

What happens when musicians step into politics?

We’re excited to launch the very first episode of Pong Pong Palavers — SDP’s new podcast series exploring politics, culture, and the human side of public life in Singapore.

For our debut episode, we sit down with our very own candidates, Jufri Salim and Surayah Akbar, for a thoughtful conversation on discipline, rhythm, dissent, performance, and the emotional realities of political life.

Why Pong-pong Palavers?
The Pong-pong fruit looks beautiful. Familiar. Harmless. But beneath the surface lies quiet toxicity. We consume stability, comfort, and silence so often that we stop noticing what it has been insidiously doing to the civic heart.

“Palavers” refers to difficult, troublesome conversations — this podcast is born out of our desire to recognize that some conversations are worth having regardless. Therefore, the Pong-pong Palavers.

We are going to name the fruit.
We are going to examine its seeds.
And maybe — just maybe — we are going to have the difficult conversations that might just be part of the antidote.

In a world moving so quickly, a real conversation might just be one of the most human things we can do. Thank you for showing that kindness doesn’t always have to be loud to make a difference ✂️❤️

This is just the beginning. More conversations, workshops, and community spaces are on the way.
