Motherhood looks different for everyone.

Some of you built a new life here from scratch, in a language that wasn't yours, with no family nearby. Some of you are doing it alone. Some of you have been here for decades and know every corner of this city and still have days that knock you sideways.

None of it is small. All of it counts.

Happy Mother's Day to every mum finding her way. 🌸

What did your Mother's Day look like today?

One of the things that surprised me about Stockholm, once you know where to look, there's actually a lot you can do with kids without spending anything.

Open preschools, Kulturhuset, library events, parks. It's all there, just not always obvious when you're new.

What's your favourite free thing to do with your kids in the city?

Moving to a new country means figuring out a whole system from scratch and Sweden has a lot of unwritten rules that take years to learn if nobody tells you.

We put together 10 practical things most newcomer parents find out way too late. From free baby boxes to food rescue apps to a law that lets you pick berries anywhere in the country.

Have a look. And if you know someone who just arrived, pass it on.

What's the one thing you wish you'd known sooner when you moved here?

If you moved to Sweden from somewhere warmer, you know exactly what this feels like.
Winter: quiet, dark, where is everybody. Summer: suddenly the entire country is outside, the sun
refuses to set, and your kids are running in the grass at 9pm like it's the most normal thing in the
world.
It takes one Swedish summer to understand why people here talk about it all year long.
Welcome to yours. 🌿

Can we be honest about what summer with little ones actually looks like?
It's the ice cream that melted before anyone could eat it. The carefully planned beach trip that turned
into 20 minutes by the water and a long drive home with a sleeping toddler. The golden light at 9pm
while you're too tired to move but somehow don't want it to end.

That's the summer worth remembering.
And if you're building these moments in a country that wasn't always yours that's something quietly
remarkable. This place is yours too, summer and all. 🌿

We'd love to hear a real moment from your summer the messier, the better. Tell us in the comments.

Swedish summer is short, which means it deserves to be fully enjoyed. ☀️

If you're a parent of little ones in Stockholm or the surrounding area, we put together a practical guide for the season: the best beaches and lakes for toddlers, free outdoor activities, local festivals, and a few simple joys that cost nothing at all (strawberries and a blanket, anyone?).

Summer here has a way of surprising you, especially if you came from a warmer country. The light alone is worth it.

Save this post and share it with a parent who needs some summer inspiration. What's already on your family's summer list?

The rock was more interesting than the entire naturreservat. The spare outfit was gone within 20 minutes. The weather app was, once again, wrong.

And it was still the best part of the week.

To every parent who shows up anyway, this one's for you. 🌿

Can we talk about the invisible effort of leaving the house with a small child?

The snack bag. The weather check (and the second weather check). The timing around naps. The last-minute outfit change, theirs and maybe yours too.

Nobody sees that part. But you do it anyway, every single time.

And somewhere between the mud on their boots and the leaf they simply had to stop and examine, you remember why you went.

Sometimes what's waiting on the other side isn't just fresh air. It's another parent on a bench who understands without a word.

That's what Alva House is about. We'd love to know: what's the hardest part of getting out the door for you? 👇

If you've ever wondered whether it's worth packing up the whole house just to spend an hour outside with your little one: it is. Every single time. 🌿

We put together an outdoor guide for families in Stockholm and the surrounding area, with spots that work for babies in the stroller all the way to toddlers who need to run, climb, and get muddy.

From Hagaparken and Djurgården to Nacka naturreservat and the lake at Flaten, there's a lot of green space here, and most of it is easy to reach.

Save this post and share it with a parent friend who needs some fresh air this week. What's your favourite spot with your kids?

There's a moment, different for everyone, when a new country starts to feel less foreign. You stop noticing the small differences. You have routines. You have people. You have places that are yours.

Getting there takes time, and it's rarely a straight line. Alva House exists for the families who are somewhere in that journey — not lost, but not quite home yet either.

Follow along. We're building something for you.
