🎼The Delegation of the Government of Catalonia to the Nordic and Baltic Countries marked Catalonia’s National Day in Stockholm with a tribute concert to the Catalan cellist, composer and humanist Pau Casals, bringing together over 130 attendees at Konserthuset Stockholm.

🔸The recital formed part of the Catalan Government’s Pau Casals Year commemorations, celebrating the legacy of one of the most internationally renowned figures in Catalan culture.

🎻Cellist Josep Castanyer Alonso, violinist Joanna Paluch, and pianist Ștefan Vârtejaru, performed a programme featuring works by Pau Casals, Robert Schumann, Edvard Grieg and Dmitri Shostakovich.

The Delegation Celebrates the Diada and the Legacy of Pau Casals at Stockholm’s Konserthuset.

Over 130 people attended the institutional event organised by the Delegation at Sweden’s leading concert venue to celebrate Catalonia’s National Day and commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of the Catalan cellist, composer and humanist.

The Delegation of the Catalan Government to the Nordic and Baltic Countries will celebrate the National Day of Catalonia with a commemorative concert marking the 150th anniversary of the Catalan cellist Pau Casals.

The event will take place on 6 September in the Grünewald Hall at the Stockholm Concert Hall and will begin at 18:00 with a welcome address by the Delegate of the Catalan Government, José Luis Martos.

The programme will be performed by cellist Josep Castanyer Alonso, violinist Joanna Paluch, and pianist Ștefan Vârtejaru, featuring works by Pau Casals, Robert Schumann, Edvard Grieg, and Dmitri Shostakovich.

The Delegation with Adifolk Cultura Catalana at the 2026 International Aplec in Stockholm.

The Aplec, the largest ever held, brought together 1,200 participants from 42 Catalan folk culture organisations in Stockholm from 14 to 16 August.

Delegate José Luis Martos welcomed the representatives to the Delegation and handed over the baton to Adifolk, which we had kept since Stockholm’s nomination last autumn.

The Aplec, held as part of the city’s Stockholms Kulturfestival, marked the culmination of nearly two years of close collaboration between Adifolk and the Delegation to make it possible.

Minister for Cultura. Generalitat de Catalunya, Sònia Hernández, led the Catalan Government’s institutional delegation at the main international showcase for Catalan popular culture.

✨Catalan folk culture rocked Stockholm!

For three days, the 38th International Aplec organised by Adifolk Cultura Catalana brought the richness and diversity of our traditions to the Swedish capital as part of the Stockholms Kulturfestival programme.

This hugely successful edition brought together more than 1,200 participants from 42 organisations: 11 groups of giants and big-head figures, 5 sardana groups, 3 casteller teams, 4 bastoner groups, 3 choirs, 3 musical ensembles, 5 traditional procession dance groups and one folk dance troupe, 2 protocol bestiary groups, one fire-beast group, one group of devils, one traditional games group, one falcons group, and a representation of the pubillatge tradition.

A wonderful showcase of the vitality of Catalan folk culture and its international reach.
