We are delighted that Wellington's award-winning Trick of the Light Theatre is bringing two productions to Denmark this month, marking their Scandinavian premiere.

Suitcase Show is a box of short stories, each one told out of a suitcase - dark, spiky and comic, touching on climate change, love, loss and the things we carry with us. It's picked up strong reviews on its way through Edinburgh Fringe and beyond, including a win for Outstanding Performance Touring Production at the Dunedin Theatre Awards 2026.

The company will also be bringing The Bookbinder, a dark and inventive fairytale told through shadowplay, puppetry and music, for a one-off Aarhus performance.

SUITCASE SHOW
📍 Teater Katapult, Aarhus — 14 & 23–24 Sep
📍 Teater V, Copenhagen — 16–18 Sep
📍 Randers Teater — 28 Sep
📍 Baggård Teatret, Svendborg — 29–30 Sep

THE BOOKBINDER
📍 Teater Katapult, Aarhus — 22 Sep

📣 Varmt välkomna to our new New Zealand Embassy interns, Odin and Isla!

Odin joins us from Stockholm University where he is studying a Master’s program in Political Science with specialisation in Public Policy and Organisations. Isla, a fellow kiwi, joins us from Lund University where she is completing a Master’s degree in Human Geography.

When they aren't at the Embassy, Odin loves spending time in the kitchen cooking and baking with family 🍰 and Isla can usually be found with knitting needles in hand, working on her next creation 🧶

We're thrilled to have them join the team and look forward to the fresh perspectives, enthusiasm, and energy they will bring to the Embassy.

Welcome aboard, Odin and Isla 🌟

The Future Leader Program is a Swedish platform for young entrepreneurs and future leaders with an international partnership with the University of Otago in New Zealand, a partnership which the New Zealand Embassy helped establish.

Current Future Leaders Program participants Elias and Lee have recently travelled to Dunedin for an exciting and educational two-week management exchange hosted by the University, which includes a mix of theory and visits to companies, and encounters with both New Zealand’s history and cutting-edge innovation. Lee and Elias have a strong interest in politics, entrepreneurship and economics, and have found their experience in Otago both rewarding and inspiring.

The Embassy is delighted to have supported the Future Leaders program in their exchange with Otago University and that Lee and Elias found it such a positive experience – hopefully it will be the first of many young leaders exchanges between Sweden and New Zealand! We hope that they returned from their visit not only with new knowledge but new connections to build stronger New Zealand-Sweden ties for the future. 🇳🇿 🤝 🇸🇪

This week it was time for SIWI World Water Week 2026, a global water issues conference in Stockholm, this year with the theme ‘Water for People and Progress'.

2026 is the fourth year that World Water Week features The Indigenous Peoples Focus, a subtheme of the conference intended to highlight and acknowledge the role of Indigenous Peoples in water. With leadership and support from the Stockholm Sámi Association as well as those Indigenous Representatives who have made the long journey to Stockholm several times, there is an ongoing effort to catalyse a network or Community of Practice for Indigenous representatives who face similar challenges to their relationships with water in their respective territories.

The Embassy took the opportunity to host a working lunch with visiting Māori delegates, Swedish government, and Sámi contacts, to discuss indigenous perspectives on water and resource management. Thanks to all for a valuable conversation, and wishing the delegation safe travels back to New Zealand!

This week the Embassy was delighted to host a screening of the documentary Mighty Indeed in collaboration with its New Zealand Director Vanessa Wells, and Ian Conrich, Associate Professor, Stockholm University. 📽

Mighty Indeed is an award-winning documentary that follows three generations of women scientists studying Antarctic sea ice, and what it can tell us about our changing planet.🌏❄ The beautiful and thought-provoking film was followed by a lively Q&A session. Thank you to Vanessa, Ian and the engaged audience for an inspiring afternoon!

This week Ambassador Taylor travelled to Oslo to attend the 15th anniversary memorial of the 22 July terrorist attacks in Norway: to show support for all the families and communities affected, including the two New Zealand families that lost loved ones. Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre spoke about the importance of coming together to remember and reflect on the events of 22 July and continuing to renew commitment to defending democracy against hatred and extremism. 🇳🇴🇳🇿

Last month, Ambassador Taylor visited Helsinki 🇫🇮 to meet with government, business, and diplomatic contacts.

Finland recently released its first Policy outline for the Indo-Pacific region, highlighting the importance of the region, and Finland’s objectives, including strengthening regional stability and security, deepening political dialogue, and promoting Finnish expertise, exports, and innovation – priorities which align well with New Zealand interests. 🇫🇮🤝🇳🇿

The centre piece of the visit was a meeting with Finland’s Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio, to discuss his recent visit to New Zealand. Ambassador Taylor also met with the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture, to discuss education and science links, the Finnish startup community, as well as Finnair ✈ to discuss their new daily service to Melbourne – creating new opportunities for people and business links between Finland and Australia and New Zealand. Kiitos and see you next time Helsinki! 👋

Today is a bittersweet one for the team at the New Zealand Embassy, as we say farewell to Deniz Bedir, our long-time Administration Manager, who is embarking on new adventures here in Stockholm.

Deniz has been with the Embassy since 2019, helping build the foundations for where we are today. From navigating Ministerial visits to keeping the office running through some unforgettable years, Deniz has helped shape the Embassy's culture and spirit.

As Deniz moves on to her next adventure, we want to simply say tack för allt. The Embassy will not be the same without you, but your mark on the team will last long after you've gone.

Ka kite anō Deniz 🇳🇿🇸🇪
