The event is organised by the -kommissionen i Sverige, in co-operation with 31 Embassies of EU Member States and candidate countries in Sweden, including almost all the members of EUNIC Stockholm. Free admission.

📚 Happy World Book Day from EUNIC Stockholm!

Today, we celebrate the power of literature to connect, inspire, and shape who we are. Across Europe, stories have always been at the heart of our shared cultural heritage—bridging languages, borders, and generations.

Books do more than tell stories. They foster empathy, encourage dialogue, and uphold the core values that unite us: freedom of expression, diversity, and mutual understanding. In every page turned, we find new perspectives and a deeper appreciation for the richness of European cultures.

This week EUNIC had to say Goodbye to Bogdan Popescu, Director of the Romanian Cultural Institute in Stockholm, thanking him for many years of creative cooperation and great projects which we developed together.

Bogdan also served as President of the EUNIC Stockholm Cluster in 2025.

We will miss Bogdans positive and constructive attitude, his valuable problem solving ability and his great creativity and friendliness. All the best for all your future undertakings Bogdan!

🇨🇾 The closing screening of NEF spring edition 2026 is a Cypriot movie Smaragda directed by Emilios Avraam as his debut feature film in 2024.

🎥 Synopsis:

Smaragda, a middle-aged single woman, moves in her recently deceased mother’s house in a small touristy town in Cyprus, while taking care of her mother’s guide dog. Having a career stuck in time and concerned with inheriting her mother’s degenerative eye condition, she starts pondering on what kind of legacy she will leave in this world. Failing to get back in TV as a host for a new progressive show, she is now in a financial deadlock so she starts working in a tourist resort as a kids entertainer, while trying to gain exposure in the world of social media using her environmental and moral stance with quirky ways. With her friends by her side, she learns, she falls, she heals and she comes to terms with her own existence.

🇦🇹 The second screening of NEF spring edition 2026 is an Austrian movie How to Be Normal and the Oddness of the Other World directed by Florian Pochlatko as his debut feature film in 2025.

🎥 Synopsis:

How do you act normal in a world where ‘normal’ is... bizarre? Austrian debut director Florian Pochlatko tackles the question with originality, humour – and spaghetti. Recently discharged from a psychiatric clinic, 26-year-old Pia moves back in with her parents on the outskirts of Vienna. Full of good intentions, she tries to return to a ‘normal’ life in a world that feels increasingly chaotic. Job interviews go wrong, friends seem distant, and love appears in the most unlikely places. A former student of Michael Haneke, Pochlatko delivers a vibrant and refreshing film about identity, family, self-discovery and partying – packed with delightfully hallucinatory detours and playful visual montages.
