Last week, we were proud to host at the Embassy the inauguration of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Sweden — an important milestone in a relationship that has never been stronger.

As Ambassador Robert Sinclair noted, Canada and Sweden are connected by shared values, strategic interests, and a growing momentum across government, industry, innovation, defence, and the Arctic. The new Chamber will play a vital role in turning that momentum into concrete opportunities: building networks, supporting companies, and helping deepen trade and investment in both directions.

We were also pleased to welcome Camilla Mellander, Director‑General for Trade at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, who delivered remarks at the launch.

Celebrating Jon Klassen — 2026 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award Laureate 🇨🇦📚

Canadian picture book artist Jon Klassen was awarded the 2026 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award last night at Konserthuset Stockholm. This global honour — the world’s largest award for children’s and young adult literature — recognizes a person or organization whose work has made an outstanding contribution to young readers everywhere. The award was presented by Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Victoria Kungahuset.

In his acceptance speech, Jon reflected on the significance of the moment: “I will spend as much time as possible going forward trying to express what this award means to me. It is truly life‑changing.”

Last week, we were delighted to welcome Jon to the embassy for a conversation with members of Sweden’s cultural, publishing, and literary community — a warm and thoughtful exchange on storytelling, creativity, and the power of picture books.

Congratulations, Jon, on this remarkable achievement. Your work has transformed how we think about picture books — showing how much can be said with so little, and how deeply children engage with subtlety, mystery, and wit.

Canada was the first country to ratify Sweden’s Accession Protocol to . In Helsingborg, Minister Anand met with her Sweden counterpart, Maria Stenergard, to discuss strengthening cooperation in the Arctic and our shared commitment to supporting . Minister Anand thanked Minister Stenergard for hosting the NATO Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
