Sri Lanka Embassy conducts Consular Mobile Service in Copenhagen

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Stockholm successfully conducted a consular mobile service in Copenhagen, Denmark on Saturday, 12 September 2026, providing convenient access to essential consular support for Sri Lankans living in Denmark. During the day, the staff of the Embassy assisted Sri Lankans visited from all the regions of Denmark to obtain essential consular services including birth registrations, passport renewals, dual citizenship applications, certification of legal documents etc.

The successful conclusion of this initiative was made possible through the invaluable support of the Sri Lankan community in Copenhagen, whose coordination played a key role in ensuring the smooth organisation and efficient delivery of the mobile consular service.

This mobile programme underscores the Embassy’s renewed commitment to strengthening the engagement with the Sri Lankan community across the region through regular dialogue and accessible services. As Sri Lanka’s only diplomatic mission in the region, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Stockholm looks after the interests and welfare of Sri Lankan nationals across the Nordic and Baltic countries, including Denmark.

A Celebration of Sri Lanka’s Living Heritage: Experience the Kandy Esala Perahera 2026

One of Sri Lanka’s most spectacular cultural and spiritual festivals, the Kandy Esala Perahera, will take place from 18 - 28 August 2026 in the historic city of Kandy.

Held in honour of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha, enshrined at the revered Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic), the Perahera transforms the streets of Kandy into a breathtaking celebration of faith, tradition and artistry. The magnificent night-time processions feature Kandyan dancers, traditional drummers, fire performers, whip crackers and beautifully adorned ceremonial elephants, creating an unforgettable spectacle of colour, music, rhythms and movement.

The celebrations begin with the Kumbal Perahera from 18 - 22 August, followed by the Randoli Perahera from 23 - 27 August. The festivities culminate in the Grand Randoli Procession on 27 August, followed by the traditional Day Procession on 28 August 2026.

For travellers seeking an authentic connection with Sri Lanka, the Esala Perahera offers more than a spectacular festival, it is an opportunity to experience centuries-old traditions, living spirituality and the island’s rich & vibrant cultural heritage.

Peraheran hålls till ära för Buddhas heliga tandrelik, som förvaras i det vördnadsfulla Sri Dalada Maligawa (Templet för den heliga tandreliken) och förvandlar Kandys gator till en storslagen hyllning till tro, tradition och konstnärlighet. De magnifika nattliga processionerna inkluderar kandyanska dansare, traditionella trumslagare, eldkonstnärer, piskknäppare och vackert utsmyckade ceremoniella elefanter, vilket skapar en oförglömlig upplevelse fylld av färg, musik, rytm och rörelse.
