Döda och uttorkade granar har blivit en vanlig syn i svenska skogar.

Granbarkborrar dödar miljontals träd i Sverige och i takt med varmare och torrare somrar ökar utbrotten av angrepp. Nu visar forskare från Stockholms universitet att granbarkborrar själva påverkar det lokala klimatet i skogen och gör den drabbade skogen ännu varmare.

– Vår studie visar varför vi behöver diversifiera våra skogar. Blandade bestånd med fler lövträd är inte bara mindre sårbara för angrepp av granbarkborre, utan hjälper också till att hålla skogen svalare efter angreppet, säger Caroline Greiser vid Institutionen för naturgeografi och Bolin Centre for Climate Research.

Record breaking wind speed observed yesterday!!
On land, Tullinge hit 84.2 km/h – a new July record! (Previous: 68.8 km/h in 2012)
Gusts exceeded 72 km/h for over 2 hours in !
saw 82.1 km/h– also a new record (Previous: 69.8 km/h in 2013).
