Czech physician Jan Janský changed modern medicine with a discovery that still saves millions of lives today. In 1907, he classified the four main human blood groups, laying the foundation for safe blood transfusions around the world.

On Blood Donor Day, celebrated on June 14th, we remember not only his scientific contribution, but also the importance of every person who chooses to donate blood.

Thank you to all blood donors. ❤️

🇨🇿✨ Last Thursday, we were delighted to welcome alumni to the Czech Embassy in Stockholm for an evening full of reconnecting, networking, and celebrating our shared connection to Czechia.

The program featured lively conversations, new and renewed friendships, and a fun Kahoot quiz on Czechology that tested participants’ knowledge of Czech history, culture, and traditions.

And of course, no Czech gathering would be complete without a taste of Czech hospitality! Guests enjoyed traditional Czech specialties accompanied by Czech beer, creating the perfect atmosphere for sharing memories and experiences.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening so enjoyable. We are proud to stay connected with our alumni community in Sweden and look forward to welcoming you again at future events.

🇨🇿🔬🇸🇪 This Wednesday, the Embassy had the pleasure of welcoming Czech scientists based in Sweden for an inspiring afternoon of networking, discussion, and exchange.

The event brought together members of the Czech scientific community to share experiences, strengthen professional connections, and explore opportunities for future cooperation in research and innovation ecosystems.

We are proud of the remarkable achievements of Czech researchers abroad and grateful for the valuable contributions they make to science, innovation, and international collaboration.

A special thank you to Petra Szeszula from BrainZell and Natalie Hrbkova from Czexpats in Science London for sharing their presentations, insights and for contributing to the engaging discussions throughout the afternoon. 👏

Thank you to all participants for making the event such a success. 🤝✨

We look forward to future meetings and events!

Few composers have shaped Czech classical music as profoundly as Antonín Dvořák.

Inspired by folk traditions and supported early in his career by Johannes Brahms, Dvořák created timeless works such as the Serenade for Strings and the Symphony No. 9 “From the New World” that reached even beyond Earth.

🎼 Now you can experience his compositions live once again at the Berwaldhallen Concert on August 25th.

This week, the streets of Stockholm belong to the runners. 🏃‍♂️🇸🇪

And there’s no better moment to remember Emil Zátopek, the legendary “Czech Locomotive”, who redefined endurance, resilience, and what a runner can achieve.

At the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki, Zátopek didn’t just win the 5,000m and 10,000m runs. He entered the marathon for the very first time in his life — and won that too! His connection to Sweden remained strong throughout his life, with memorable appearances at Stockholm’s Olympic Stadium and later visits as a celebrated ambassador for the sport of running. Stockholm has long been part of Zátopek’s story, which makes marathon week a fitting time to remember him.

✨Good luck to everyone running this week!

♻️ Before reusable bags became a trend, Václav Krčil, a Czech businessman and inventor, was already ahead of his time.

In the 1920s, when demand for hairnets declined, the Czech entrepreneur reinvented his craft of hairnet manufacturing and created the iconic string shopping bag made from artificial silk yarn. These lightweight, handmade bags became a household staple across Czechoslovakia until plastic bags took over in the 1980s.

Today, the timeless network bag is making a comeback as both a sustainable and stylish everyday accessory.
