🌴 Stop-motion short THE END by Niki Lindroth von Bahr is competing for the Palme d’Or for best short film – one of the world’s most prestigious film awards and has its world premiere on Friday May 22!

🐬 THE END is a dark, poetic tale of death and existence set in a large, international airport. With voices by Alexander Skarsgård, Noomi Rapace, Denis Lavant,Tuva Novotny, Carl Johan De Geer and Marianne Lindberg De Geer, among others.

🪰 In the film we meet a seductive duty-free clerc in the form of a killer snail, a sheep who has problems at security, a fly being interrogated after flying too much, a shrimp in a wheelchair and many more.

🏆 Niki is renowned for her stop-motion animation and returns to Cannes with her latest film, The End. Her previous works have been screened and received awards at major international festivals, including Cannes, Berlinale, Toronto, and Sundance.

🎬 The Burden (Quinzaine des Réalisateurs, 2017) went on to receive international acclaim, winning more than 80 awards. In 2026, the film was named one of the 100 greatest short films of all time by 250 European film critics.

🐬Niki uses different themes for the animals in her films; in The Burden (2017) they were commonly used in animal testing, and in The End we find them in the world of fables.

🗓️ Since pitching the film , it has taken four years for THE END to be completed — including one and a half years in production. The process has been “fun in periods and dreadful in periods.” 🙃

“I’m just here for the films.” 🎬

💀 Multiple eyewitnesses confirm that Death from THE SEVENTH SEAL, directed by legendary Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman, has made an unannounced visit to the Cannes Film Festival. The appearance marks the first known return to Cannes since the film won the Special Jury Prize in 1957.

🌴 Equipped with festival accreditation, Death was seen strolling the Croisette, playing chess, attending screenings, and getting some much-needed beach time after several late nights collecting souls.

🇸🇪 Death largely withdrew from public life following the international breakthrough of THE SEVENTH SEAL and is usually spotted around Hovs Hallar in southern Sweden, where parts of the film were shot, making this latest sighting particularly rare.

🌴 A newly restored version of THE SEVENTH SEAL, presented by the Swedish Film Institute, was screened at Cannes in 2018.

🎥 Death has declined to comment on any future projects.
