Reading edge

Reading edge Reading edge is a library dedicated to independent publications within choreography, dance, performance, and movement-based practices.

Reading edge is a library dedicated to the field of knowledge processed within choreography, dance, performance, and movement-based practices. Reading edge focuses on independent and self-published publications by small-scale organizations, micro-publishers or individual artists. In this constantly growing collection, you can find artists’ books, magazines, zines, online publications, time-based m

edia, and other related art books in experimental materials and formats. Reading edge takes its form as a non-circulating library, a mobile installation, and a digital platform. As an audience, you are invited to move with the library, in its multiple formations to read, reflect, discuss, or rest. Reading edge aims to expand the notion of what a publication is and can do. The ambition is to gather a diverse collection and present public programs that activate publications and publishing practices. In autumn 2022, Reading edge will re-open at MDT in Stockholm. Reading edge is run by the independent, non-profit organization PAM, initiated by the curator Izabella Borzecka.

To make something public.

Ways of sharing thoughts, practices, experiences, visions.

A publication is often described as ‘making something public’. When holding fragments and/or traces of embodied practices, the traditional book format can document past activity, extend it in time, and ignite something else. Artists may write about, with, and through their practices, inviting the readers to shift attention beyond the pages. Some publications invoke the surroundings, the invisible, and whatever could be there. A page may even suggest being dropped and expanded toward the outdoors.

When a publication does not explain an artistic practice, how can it approximate the reader to it?
If there is generosity in clarity, how can artists grasp what clarity could be, within the universes they wish to propose?

Besides tangible publications as we know them - books, zines and variations, which possible formats could perform as publications? What else could a book become?

Let’s talk about it on Saturday! Fika will be provided 💜

Hosted by with support from Ideell kulturallians 🙏🏼
