I helgen hade vi verksamhetsbesök anordnat av Jarl Hjalmarsson stiftelsen. Det var ett väldigt viktigt utbyte för båda parter.
Björn Möller, Kerstin Moller, Martin Tellblom and Maria Tellblom are currently hosting guests from Moldova and Ukraine. Our guests are young politicians visiting Sweden in order to take part in the Swedish campaign and to learn about the Swedish election and democratic system. This exchange is arranged through the Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation.
Founded after the fall of the Berlin wall and the iron curtain, the Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation aims to promote co-operation and European development based on freedom, democracy and market economy. This is done through education and information on democracy and European integration directed to political parties and organizations.
Young democracies such as Moldova and Ukraine are facing big difficulties, but are also making big strides forward. And these determined and skilled young politicians will certainly assist in getting their respective countries on the right track. However, democracy cannot be taken for granted. We have seen scandals of corruption even in Sweden.
Only 36% of the people living on Tjörn say that they trust their local politicians. As stated in earlier posts, this is unacceptable and is a threat to our democracy. This is why we are so dedicated to changing this. The exchange through the Foundation has certainly been very educational for us as well.
Finally, a big thank you to Nya Moderaterna på Orust. We had a great time at Henån where we campaigned together. Our visitors also had a chance to talk to members of the Swedish parliament. A big thank you to Lars-Arne Staxäng, Ann-Sofie Alm and Johan Hultberg who made our guests feel extra welcome!
