Care Instructions are just as important as Washing Instructions🧡

Proper cleaning and maintenance reduce exposure to carcinogens, but health goes beyond gear. Support, communication, and well-being matter just as much.

This is the final post of Cancer Awareness Month 2026, an initiative by International Association of Fire Fighters , but the work does not stop here. Let’s continue raising awareness, sharing knowledge, and supporting firefighters every day.

A wheel no firefighter should ever have to spin 🎰

For firefighters, this isn’t a game.

Each spin represents daily exposure to occupational hazards, many of them linked to cancer.

This is the reality of the job. And it’s why prevention, protection, and accountability matter.

We must:

🧑‍🚒 Reduce exposures wherever possible

🧑‍🚒 Strengthen preventive measures

🧑‍🚒 Ensure fair compensation and long-term care for those affected

January is Cancer Awareness Month, an initiative by International Association of Fire Fighters. We start by raising awareness with the spinning wheel and continue sharing knowledge and awareness throughout the month.

Let’s spin the wheel toward safety, prevention, and awareness.

Are Your Decon Zones Ready for 2026?

Dividing firefighter facilities into Red, Yellow, and Green Zones helps prevent cross-contamination and protects personnel from hazardous exposures.

🔴 Red (Hot) – Where contaminated gear or equipment first enters the station and where contaminated PPE is cleaned

🟡 Yellow (Warm) – Transition area between contaminated and clean zones, with showers and restrooms for thorough personnel clean-up

🟢 Green (Cold) – The cleanest area, living spaces; all PPE and gear should be kept out

What's a life worth?

That’s the question Anders Cederberg, Chair of the Swedish Firefighters’ Union, raises in a recently published opinion piece.

Key points from the article:

🧑‍🚒 In July 2022, WHO’s cancer research agency (IARC) classified firefighting as a carcinogenic occupation. Some countries (e.g. USA, Canada, Australia, Norway) now recognize certain types of cancer as an occupational disease for firefighters, but many still do not.

🧑‍🚒Most cancer-causing compounds enter the body through the skin, our largest organ. Protecting firefighters with proper PPE and decontamination gear costs thousands — but the cost of cancer treatment is far higher, not just financially.

The cost of saving lives should never be the health of those who protect us.

💙 Team Mustache for Movember 💙

This November, we got a little hairy for a cause that’s close to our hearts! Our team grew mustaches, and embraced Movember to raise awareness for prostate cancer and men’s health.

Why does this matter? Every year, men face issues like prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health challenges and by starting conversations, spreading awareness, and encouraging regular check-ups, we can make a lifesaving difference.
