For centuries, Kyiv maintained close ties with European countries through diplomacy, although diplomatic relations looked quite different in medieval times.

The families of Rus princes Volodymyr the Great and Yaroslav the Wise built connections with royal families in France, Sweden, Norway, Hungary, Poland, Byzantium, and beyond. These dynastic connections helped shape long-lasting links across the continent.

Through royal courts and family connections, traditions and ideas travelled across Europe – from Ingegerd Olofsdotter of Sweden arriving in Kyiv to marry Yaroslav the Wise and becoming a key figure at the Kyivan court, to Anna of Kyiv becoming Queen of France and participating in political life, and Elisiv of Kyiv bringing the connections of Rus to the Norwegian royal court through her marriage to Harald Hardrada.

Участь у відкритті Unity Hub Stockholm взяли заступниці Міністра соціальної політики, сім'ї та єдності України Ілона Гавронська та Тетяна Кірієнко, Міністр з питань міграції Швеції Йохан Форсселл, Надзвичайний і Повноважний Посол України в Королівстві Швеція Світлана Заліщук, представники Міжнародного центру розвитку міграційної політики (ICMPD) та української громади у Швеції.

💬«Сьогодні десятки тисяч українців у Швеції навчаються, працюють, виховують дітей, залишаючись при цьому невід’ємною частиною України. Центр єдності у Стокгольмі покликаний допомогти їм зберігати цей зв’язок, отримувати достовірну інформацію, підтримку та необхідні консультації для планування свого майбутнього, зокрема можливого повернення в Україну», – сказала Ілона Гавронська.

📌 У Центрі, відкритому за підтримки уряду Швеції, українці зможуть отримати зокрема:

🔹інформаційні консультації щодо статусу тимчасового захисту, питань перебування та інтеграції у Швеції, працевлаштування, а також доступної підтримки для тих, хто розглядає можливість повернення в Україну;

🔹навігацію доступними сервісами і механізмами підтримки для переміщених осіб у Швеції і направлення до профільних організацій;

🔹доступ до культурних, освітніх та громадських заходів для посилення соціальної згуртованості та підтримки зв'язку з Україною.

🗓Unity Hub Stockholm буде відкритий для відвідувачів з 22 червня 2026 року. Він працюватиме у тестовому режимі з понеділка по пʼятницю з 10:00 до 17:00 та прийматиме відвідувачів за попереднім записом.

Russia's overnight attack on Kyiv struck one of the greatest holy sites of Christianity and a UNESCO World Heritage site – the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra.

A fire covering approximately 800 square meters broke out on the roof of the Dormition Cathedral after the attack. Emergency crews continue to work at the site.

The damage occurred during a massive Russian assault on Kyiv that killed at least four people and injured dozens more. The strike also caused a fire at a building of the Mystetskyi Arsenal National Cultural, Arts and Museum Complex, where flames spread across about 1,000 square meters.

Targeting the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra is an unforgivable attack on Ukraine's cultural and spiritual heritage and a site of global significance. We expect a strong response from the international community.

💬 "We will be urgently initiating all relevant procedures within UNESCO and all other international mechanisms, demanding immediate and adequate responses to this state barbarism.

We expect strong reactions by international institutions and capitals. No vague words, silence, or weak steps. We need action now to stop Russian barbarism," Ukraine's Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha has stressed.

“Swedish society does not grow tired of helping Ukraine. This is a matter where we have complete consensus — in every home. We support you. And our support must not fade even when this war hopefully comes to an end.”

These are the words we heard from Swedish volunteers who have been helping Ukraine since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion. They receive no compensation for their work. On the contrary, they invest their own money in purchasing essential supplies, organizing transportation, and traveling to Ukraine themselves.

Today, we were pleased to welcome representatives of Sveriges Lions to the Embassy. Since February 2022, Sveriges Lions have sent more than 200 trucks of humanitarian aid to Ukraine, including food, clothing, generators, stoves, medical supplies, hygiene products, and much more. In addition, the organization has donated 15 ambulances to Ukraine. The total value of assistance exceeds USD 14 million — all made possible through the efforts of volunteers.

Interestingly, the organization raises funds through a wide range of creative initiatives — from collecting donations for Christmas tree recycling to organizing flea markets and fundraising through the sale of used furniture.

We also had the pleasure of welcoming the founders of the charitable initiative “Lunches for Ukraine” — Christer Jansson and Marianne Jansson. This family could not stand aside when Russia launched its full-scale war against Ukraine. To support Ukraine, they organize charity fundraising lunches and direct all proceeds toward humanitarian assistance for Ukrainians.

Initiatives like these are incredibly valuable to us. They once again remind us that we are not alone. Thank you for your solidarity and unwavering support!

Його Величність Король Швеції Карл XVI Густав: «Ми ніколи не повинні забувати, що боротьба України є також визначальною для нас. Для нашої свободи. У Європі. І у Швеції».

Ці слова були сказані Його Величністю у промові з нагоди Національного дня Швеції 6 червня.

Посол України в Королівстві Швеція Світлана Заліщук також мала честь долучитися до святкування та почути цю важливу промову Короля наживо.

У своїй промові ЙВ Карл XVI Густав зазначив:

«Наш шведський прапор об’єднує нас, адже нас єднають спільні цінності – мир, свобода і віра в майбутнє. Він символізує країну, яка наважується мислити по-новому, водночас цінуючи своє минуле.
Синьо-жовтий прапор нагадує нам про це. Але коли ми бачимо інший прапор тих самих кольорів, нам стає очевидно: те, що ми часто сприймаємо як належне, – це те, за що український народ бореться щодня.
Я відвідав Україну трохи менше ніж два місяці тому. Мене глибоко вразили розмови з українцями про їхній страшний досвід війни – про страждання та величезні жертви, які вони змушені приносити. Також мене вразила зустріч із мешканцями шведського походження з села Гаммальсвенськбю – сьогодні це спустошена громада, де лише руїни свідчать про місце, яке колись було їхнім домом.
Ми ніколи не повинні забувати, що боротьба України є також визначальною для нас. Для нашої свободи. У Європі. І у Швеції».

Ми щиро вдячні Швеції за незмінну підтримку України та солідарність, засновану на спільних цінностях миру, свободи, гідності та демократії.
