Subject: Formal Request for an Immediate Investigation into the Disappearance of Driver Fasil Gebremichael Hailemariam
We respectfully submit this request seeking an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the disappearance of Fasil Gebremichael Hailemariam, who was employed as a driver at the ETHNO Gold Mining Project in Dima Woreda, Gambella Region.
According to information provided to the family, Fasil was responsible for transporting workers at the mining camp. He remained in regular communication with his brother, Fikadu Kassa Bekele. During their last telephone conversation on Sene 27, 2018 (Ethiopian Calendar), Fasil explained that the vehicle assigned to him was under repair and that he was waiting for replacement parts before resuming his duties.
Several days later, on Hamle 5, 2018 (E.C.), the company owner informed Fikadu Kassa Bekele that Fasil had allegedly been involved in a road traffic accident near Dimma Town during the night. It was further claimed that, after the accident, Fasil returned the damaged vehicle to the camp and then disappeared. Although the incident reportedly occurred three days earlier, the family was not informed until Hamle 5. Since that time, no verified information regarding Fasil's whereabouts or condition has been provided.
The family remains extremely concerned because there has been no direct communication from Fasil, no official confirmation of his safety, and no clear explanation regarding the circumstances of his disappearance. The available information is based solely on statements reportedly made by the company, and the family has not been able to independently verify those claims.
In view of these circumstances, we respectfully request that the police thoroughly investigate the following:
• The current whereabouts and safety of Fasil Gebremichael Hailemariam.
• The exact date, time, location, and circumstances of the alleged road traffic accident.
• Whether an official police accident report was prepared and, if so, verification of its contents.
• The identities and statements of any witnesses who can confirm that Fasil returned the damaged vehicle to the camp.
• The reasons for the delay in reporting the incident to both the family and the police.
• The actions taken by the company and local authorities to locate the missing driver.
• The condition of the vehicle involved and any available evidence, including photographs, inspection reports, or repair records.
We further request that:
• An urgent search be initiated to locate Fasil Gebremichael Hailemariam.
• All relevant company officials, employees, and witnesses be interviewed and their statements formally recorded.
• Any available evidence be preserved and examined.
• Appropriate legal action be taken if the investigation reveals negligence, misconduct, or any criminal offence.
• Copies of Fasil Gebremichael Hailemariam's Ethiopian Driving License and National Digital ID, to assist in his identification, are attached below.
