The Civil Democratic Alliance of Revolutionary Forces (Somoud)
Statement Welcoming the Berlin Principles Declaration on Sudan
The Civil Democratic Alliance of Revolutionary Forces (Somoud) welcomes the Berlin Principles Declaration on Sudan, which was agreed upon by governments, international and regional organizations that participated in the Sudan conference held in the German capital, Berlin, in mid-April. This consensus reflects growing international attention to the Sudanese crisis and an increasing willingness to help bring an end to the bloody conflict that has entered its fourth year, leaving behind the largest humanitarian catastrophe in the world.
The Berlin Principles are consistent with the calls and aspirations of Sudanese men and women who demand an end to the war and seek to establish peace throughout the country. The declaration emphasized the necessity of ending the war through a peaceful process aligned with the Quartet statement, the African Union roadmap, and relevant UN Security Council resolutions. The signatories stressed key agreed principles, including preserving Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity; affirming that there is no military solution to the country’s crises; ensuring the provision and delivery of humanitarian aid to those affected; protecting civilians and civilian infrastructure; and the need to investigate all crimes and violations committed during the war and hold perpetrators accountable. It also highlighted the importance of ending all forms of external support that fuel the conflict, and called for the launch of an independent, transparent Sudanese dialogue led by civilians that would end the war and lead to a sustainable democratic civilian transition.
This broad international consensus represents an important opportunity that requires mobilizing Sudanese national will to put an end to this criminal war, which has devastated the country, claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of unarmed civilians, and displaced millions. It must stop immediately and without delay. In ( Somoud) we affirm our continued work with other Sudanese forces and engagement with regional and international actors to make every effort to achieve a just and comprehensive peace across the country.
