European Union in Rwanda

European Union in Rwanda EU Delegations are part of the EEAS. Consular protection of EU citizens is provided by individual Member States Embassies and their Consulates.

Welcome to the official page of the Delegation of the European Union to Rwanda 🇪🇺🤝🇷🇼
Follow us on Twitter: twitter.com/EUinRW and on Instagram: instagram.com/euinrwanda/ Following the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty on 1 December 2009 and under High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, the EU has set up a unified d

iplomatic service called the European External Action Service (EEAS). The EU Delegation now represents the EU as a whole, with the Head of Delegation or Ambassador accredited as the official representative of the EU. The EU Delegation functions much like an Embassy and represents the EU in its dealings with political issues, trade, development, cooperation, etc. Five EU Member States are represented in Kigali: Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden. Through its engagement with political actors, the media, academics, civil society and citizens, the EU Delegation raises awareness of EU issues and concerns, and promotes the importance of the EU-Rwanda relationship. The EU Delegation has four main tasks:
- represent EU interests,
- promote cooperation with and among EU Member States in Rwanda,
- support the reform agenda of the Rwandan government, and
- ensure that the EU cooperation benefits those mostly in need

The EU Delegation was formally established in Rwanda in 1991. It is headed by Ambassador Nicola Bellomo.
