The Rwanda Water Resources Board (RWB) has conducted a two-day learning session on promoting groundwater use for sustainable supply and agriculture, organized with the support of the 2030 Water Resources Group (WRG) of the WorldBank.

The session brought together key partners from various organizations under the Rwanda Intersectoral Multi-Stakeholder Platform to align efforts on achieving long-term water security.
Strategic discussions and workstreams centered on:

🔹Groundwater mapping and prospecting
🔹Scaling up sustainable groundwater supply in Rwanda
🔹Groundwater regulation and pollution management
🔹Expansion of the national monitoring network

The learning session was concluded with a field visit to different pumping stations in Rwamagana and Kayonza Districts that provide water for both domestic supply and agricultural activities, showcasing practical groundwater utilization and management frameworks.

Rwanda is represented in the 94th Annual Meeting & Symposium of the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) in Guadalajara/ Mexico 22-29 May 2026, held under the theme: “Water, Energy, and Society: The Evolving Role of Dams in a Changing World.”

The event brings together experts and institutions from around the globe to share knowledge, innovations, lessons, and emerging challenges in dam engineering and management.

RWB Executive Chairperson, Eng. Richard Nyirishema also held a constructive meeting with ICOLD President Dr. Kumar to discuss opportunities for strengthened cooperation.

Iri genamigambi, ni uburyo abatuye mu mudugudu berekana ibibazo biteza isuri, aho biherereye n'uburyo bifuza ko byakemurwa babigizemo uruhare.

Today, Richard Nyirishema, Executive Chairperson of the Rwanda Water Resources Board welcomed a group of Grade 5 students from Green Hills Academy for an educational study visit. Their visit centered on a curiosity and interest in learning how we protect and manage Rwanda’s water resources for a better future.

The students were taken through the importance of Rwanda's natural water stores, including 100+ lakes and hundreds of rivers, and how our nine catchments are managed to ensure equitable water for all and the RWB’s role in monitoring water quality and controlling floods.

Director General of the Rwanda Water Resources Board, Dr. Emmanuel RUKUNDO leads the Rwandan delegation in Egypt attending the 2nd Joint Steering Committee for Rwanda–Egypt bilateral cooperation in Water Resources Management.

Rwanda reaffirmed its commitment to this partnership, emphasizing the importance of delivering measurable impact for citizens, particularly in rural areas where access to clean water and sustainable land management can transform lives.
