Tonight, in partnership with , Rwanda received another group of 164 asylum seekers from Libya originating from Eritrea (19), Sudan (143), Ethiopia (1), South Sudan (1) through the Emergency Transit Mechanism.

Today, Minister Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Albert Murasira received Dr. Cosmos Zavazava, the Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau at the International Telecommunication Union, for a courtesy visit to strengthen strategic cooperation on emergency telecommunications and disaster risk management.

Discussions focused on advancing implementation of the National Emergency Telecommunication Plan (NETP), enhancing early warning systems, expanding cell broadcast capabilities under the Rwanda Early Warnings for All (EW4All) programme and reinforcing digital resilience through capacity building, regulatory strengthening, and interoperable communication systems.

This week, MINEMA continued Disaster Risk Management and Fire Drill training for Occupational Health and Safety Committees from over 25 government institutions, strengthening institutional emergency preparedness and promoting a culture of safety and disaster risk prevention.

Key lessons focused on risk assessment, emergency planning, coordination and practical response skills. Participants were called upon to put these lessons into practice and cascade them within their institutions by reinforcing workplace safety plans and conducting regular drills.

The training is ongoing, with more institutions scheduled to benefit, underscoring that preparedness and regular drills are vital to safeguarding lives, assets, and the continuity of public services.

On Day 3 of the Global in Geneva, PS Ngoga Aristarque spoke on the panel “National Leadership for Advancing Sustainable Responses.” He showcased Rwanda’s experience and commitment to sustainable, government-led refugee responses that go beyond emergency assistance and are anchored in national systems, ownership, and strong development partnerships.

He highlighted Rwanda’s newly developed 5-year Refugee Graduation Strategy, aiming to transition 50% of eligible refugee households from aid dependency to self-reliance. Supported through partnerships with UNHCR, the World Bank, EU and others, the approach promotes inclusion, innovative financing and alignment with national development priorities; benefiting both refugees and host communities.

Today at the Global in Geneva, PS Ngoga Aristarque spoke on the panel “Sustainable Human Settlements as Foundations for Inclusive and Resilient Futures,” highlighting Rwanda’s commitment to refugee inclusion as a foundation for long-term resilience. Rwanda currently hosts nearly 138,000 refugees, most living in camps, they have freedom of movement and access to education, work, healthcare and financial services.

He emphasized Rwanda’s aspiration to explore the possibility to transform current refugee settings into inclusive, integrated and sustainable human settlements; moving beyond traditional camps to communities where refugees fully participate in local economies, with access to housing, services, livelihoods and infrastructure, while ensuring environmental and social sustainability, in line with the Global Compact on Refugees.
