in 1927, a daring young U.S. Air Mail pilot named Charles Lindbergh took off on the world's first solo nonstop transatlantic flight from Long Island, NY to Paris, France. Lindbergh's historic achievement was seen as a turning point in the development of commercial aviation. My dad was instrumental in helping Lindbergh move his noisy rocket experiments from Massachusetts to the quieter New Mexico. I personally met Charles Lindbergh during one of my scuba diving exercises in Hawaii, and many years later I drove by his burial site on the southern side of Maui Island, HI. Of course being a resident of NJ at a very young age, I was exposed to the publicity of the kidnapping of the Lindbergh baby.
