Ever defiant in the face of repression and a five-year jail term, Boris Kagarlitsky, Russia’s best-known socialist thinker, has just published his latest book, The Long Retreat: Strategies to Reverse the Decline of the Left.

This special online conference in Kagarlitsky’s honour will address the double aspect of his contribution: his wide-ranging analysis of the left’s dilemmas in the face of multiple global crises and the advance of the far right; and his resistance — together with other persecuted anti-war activists in the Russian Federation — to the authoritarianism of the regime of Vladimir Putin.

Kagarlitsky has been transferred to a colony.

Boris Kagarlitsky's lawyer, Sergey Erokhov, has just published some unpleasant news on his telegram channel. Boris is being transferred to a colony today. It is not clear what this means yet, but the case has clearly been expedited.

Boris Yulievich has a two-week supply of necessary items and medications (thank you for the packages and deliveries).

It is unknown where exactly Kagarlitsky has been sent. As soon as we have any information about his whereabouts, we will immediately post it here and on our other social media platforms (all links in bio).

ATTENTION! Writing letters to the Zelenograd pre-trial detention center address no longer makes sense. The only way to help Boris directly now is through money transfers to his account via the FSIN Money* service. You can still use the old institution address (Pre-trial Detention Center - 12 Zelenograd), the money will still reach him as it goes to his account.

There should be a call for a peace settlement, but only on the condition of the retreat of all Putin’s forces from Ukrainian territory occupied after February 24, 2022. This would be a defeat for Putin's regime so serious as to hasten its inevitable demise.

Борис Кагарлицкий стал первым лауреатом премии Фонда Даниэля Сингера

Даниэль Сингер (1926-2000) - еврейско-польский журналист и писатель, убежденный сторонник демократического социализма. Созданный в его честь фонд присудил Борису Юльевичу премию в размере десяти тысяч долларов как узнику совести, стороннику социализма и демократии, несправедливо отправленному в тюрьму за выражение своей позиции. Последовательно критиковавший антидемократическую практику в СССР, в России при Ельцине и при Путине, Борис Кагарлицкий равно претерпевал притеснения от каждой власти. Премия пойдет на помощь семье и юридическую поддержку.
