In March, the White Sea is one of the three sites in the world where the birth and feeding of harp seal pups take place on the ice. Visitors have a unique opportunity to take part in a helicopter tour to the ice of the White Sea. Watching the seals will leave no one indifferent. In summer months ringed seals are a common sight along the coasline of the park. Bearded seals can also be encountered. The water territory adjacent to the coastlineof the park is a foraging area for beluga whales (white whales). Groups of these graceful animals, adults and young whales of various ages, organise hunts for fish and move simultaneously toward the shore. The Onega peninsula is located on bird migration routes. The vast ebb tide territories, where birds can rest and feed on their way to and from nesting areas are of great interest to bird watchers. Unskaya Bay is included in the list of key ornitological territories in the European part of Russia. In spring and autumn, thousands of migrating bird flocks can be observed in national park. The most abundant species are the barnacle goose, black brant and various sea ducks, such as the common eider, scoter and long-tailed duck. Predator birds, such as the osprey an white-tailed eagle, also nest among the forest swamps of the park. These species are in the Red Data Book of the Russian Federation. The forest ecosystems of the park are also unique. They include the only large array of indigenous boreal forests in Europe, which overlook the coastline. The landscape of the park is extremely diverse. It consists of a unique combination of boreal forests, swamps, lakes, valleys and natural coastal areas. The Onega Peninsula has its own autonomous hydrographic network, which includes about 2000 lakes and 95 rivers and streams - spawing grounds for valuable species of fish, such as Atlantic salmon, pink salmon, salmon trout, lake trout, rainbow trout, whitefish and nelma. The freshwater pearl mussel, which is a freshwater clam that is rare in northern Europe, inhabits the waters of the park. Visitors to the park can see geological and paleontological monuments of great scientific value and rarity - deposits of the Vendian Reriod.
