🌍 What does intergenerational fairness look like in practice?

At the 30th Summer Academy in Coma-Ruga (Catalonia), political and youth representatives from across Europe came together to explore how regions can turn intergenerational fairness into concrete action.

💬 From protecting minority languages in the age of AI to using art to strengthen inclusive democracy, discussions highlighted the many ways regions can respond to changing social, economic and demographic realities.

The Academy also created space for young people and political representatives to share experiences, challenge perspectives and explore new ways of working together.

The discussions showed that intergenerational fairness is not only about the future. It is also about the choices regions and communities are making today.

From culture to gastronomy to rural development, Timiș County, host of the 2026 Regions Forum and General Assembly, is a leading example of place-based innovation. Its leadership has been recognised through international initiatives such as the 2023 European Capital of Culture and the 2028 European Region of Gastronomy.

The AER warmly thanks Consiliul Judeţean Timiş for their outstanding hospitality and dedication in making the 2026 Regions Forum an unforgettable experience.

🇷🇴 The third and final day of the AER Regions Forum in Timiş wraps up with a celebration of European regions to drive progress across diverse areas, including intercultural inclusion, youth representation, and place-based innovation in both rural and urban areas.

Interdependence makes multi-level governance essential. 🌍

On Day 2 of the Region Forum in Timiş, at the AER GeneraI Assembly 2026, we reaffirmed our commitment to regional democracy and interregional cooperation across Europe.

A proud moment: Aleksandra Maletić, Vice-President of the Assembly of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina (Serbia), was elected as AER Vice President, a strong voice for our pan-European nature.

The Bureau meeting and IRN Plenary reinforced the AER’s key message: regional authorities are irreplaceable partners in addressing the challenges of our time, from demographic shifts and climate adaptation to social inclusion and talent retention.

As the kicks off today in Timișoara (Consiliul Judeţean Timiş), the High-Level Conference on brought together leaders to address the urgent need for a grassroots response to disinformation and polarisation.

Key insights were shared by Vice Presidents Aida Karimli (Västra Götalandsregionen) and Agustí Fernández de Losada Passols (Generalitat de Catalunya), alongside City of Vienna Councillor Aslihan Bozatemur and Freiburg representative Patrick Mülhauser.

The conference also featured a strategic dialogue between AER President Lukas Mandlandl and representatives of several regions from Romania.

It concluded with the signing of the Timiș Declaration on Democratic Resilience, reaffirming the vital role of regions in defending and promoting democracy from the ground up.
