Headquarters Multinational Division South East: HQ MNDSE Headquarters Multinational Division South–East (HQ MND-SE) is a NATO HQ from NATO force structure

Comandamentul Multinațional de Divizie Sud-Est (HQ MND-SE) este o structură NATO, activată de către Consiliul Nord Atlantic (NAC) și care se află sub comanda operațională (OPCOM) a Comandantului Suprem al Forțelor Aliate din Europa (SACEUR). Ca urmare a deciziei NAC, HQ MND-SE se bucură de statutul unui comandament militar internațional NATO în conformitate cu Protocolul de la Paris și acordurile suplimentare între țările NATO și Comandamentul Suprem al Forțelor Aliate din Europa (SHAPE). La data de 15 septembrie 2015, din ordinul Ministrului Apărării Naționale al României, domnul Mircea Dușa, a avut loc transformarea Diviziei 1 Infanterie „DACICA” în Comandamentul Multinațional de Divizie Sud-Est. La data de 1 decembrie 2015, a avut loc ceremonia de activare a comandamentului, eveniment care a reprezentat integrarea oficială a HQ MND-SE în Structura de Forțe NATO (NFS) pe baza implementării Planului de Acțiune pentru Ridicarea Capacității de Reacție a Alianței, stabilit în cadrul Summit-ului din Țara Galilor, 2014. La data de 1 Iulie 2016, la sediul comandamentului s-a desfășurat ceremonia de declarare a Capacității Inițiale a HQ MND-SE.

90 years of history, tradition and commitment 🇮🇹

The 4th Tank Regiment celebrated the 90th anniversary of its establishment in Bulgaria, where it is currently deployed as the core of the Italian contingent within the NATO Multinational Battle Group Bulgaria🇧🇬.
“Celebrating the 90th anniversary of the 4th Tank Regiment here in Bulgaria carries a particularly significant meaning. Today, we are called upon to preserve a legacy built on courage, sacrifice and professionalism—values and qualities that continue to guide the daily commitment of the Regiment’s men and women in service to our country and, as in this case, to the Atlantic Alliance” as stated by Colonel Stefano Catania, Commander of the 4th Tank Regiment and MN BG BGR Commander.

Today, the Commander of Multinational Division South-East, Major General Cornel Tonea-Bălan welcomed the Commander of the Bulgarian Land Forces, Major General Deyan Deshkov, during his visit to the headquarters.

Discussions focused on Allied cooperation, interoperability and coordination in support of NATO’s deterrence and defence posture.

𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠

At the Novo Selo Training Area, 🇮🇹 and 🇬🇷 NATO troops of the Multinational Battle Group Bulgaria 🇧🇬 conducted a joint training activity with small arms.
More than a training opportunity, it was a chance to share skills, experience and best practices, strengthening interoperability and mutual understanding among Allied forces.
Every training activity brings us closer to a common standard.

Snipers develop their ability to remain focused and composed, achieve maximum precision, and adapt to different operational environments.
Camouflage and the effective exploitation of the terrain are essential skills, allowing them to remain concealed while observing and operating with maximum effectiveness.
Every movement, every position and every shot reflects preparation and discipline.

Admiral George M. Wikoff, Commander of Allied Joint Force Command Naples - JFCNP, visited NATO FLFBG Romania at Camp Berthelot in Cincu, alongside Lieutenant General Cristian Daniel Dan, Commander of Headquarters Multinational Corps South-East.
The visit highlighted the Battle Group’s mission, readiness and multinational integration.
Led by France as framework nation, NATO Battle Group Romania operates under the command of Headquarters Multinational Division South East, contributing to Alliance’s deterrence and defence posture on the Eastern Flank.

The 9th National Deployed Force welcomed Lieutenant-General Luís Manuel Nunes Serôdio, 2nd Operational Commander of the 🇵🇹 Portuguese Armed Forces, at Caracal.
The visit brought together the people, equipment and capabilities that make the force ready for its mission.
His message to the Portuguese service members was clear: training, technical proficiency and adaptability are at the heart of operational readiness.

Can multinational teams turn different drone capabilities into actionable information, informed decisions and tactical effects?
At Centrul Naţional de Instruire Întrunită "Getica" / Cincu JNTC, multinational teams from the Forward Land Forces Battle Group Bulgaria 🇧🇬 and Romania 🇷🇴 put this to the test during a drone competition.
The teams employed reconnaissance, long-range, FPV and strike capabilities across common scenarios and terrain, testing their ability to integrate emerging technologies into multinational land operations.
Activities such as Phoenix Competition contribute directly to:
🔹 Readiness by testing modern capabilities in demanding tactical scenarios
🔹 Interoperability by bringing Allied forces together under common conditions
🔹 Deterrence and defence by strengthening the credibility of NATO’s forward land presence in Romania

Logistics are just as essential as operational activities.
The professionalism of the Joint Multimodal Operational Unit (JMOU) 🇮🇹 supports the NATO Multinational Battle Group Bulgaria, ensuring the movement of personnel and equipment between Italy and 🇧🇬 Bulgaria.
Through the coordinated use of air ✈️ and maritime 🚢 assets, the JMOU keeps people, equipment and capabilities moving from the homeland to the operational theatre and back🌍🌐.

𝐀 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞. 𝐀 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭.
Today, HQ Multinational Division South-East welcomed back GEN Thomas M. Carden Jr., Vice Chief of the National Guard Bureau, who previously served as Deputy Commander of HQ MND-SE.
His return offered a unique perspective on how far the Division has come and on the people, readiness and capabilities that continue to strengthen NATO’s deterrence and defence on the South-Eastern Flank.
During his engagement with the HQ leadership and staff, General Carden highlighted the importance of deterrence, innovation (including UAS) and layered domain awareness in an increasingly complex operational environment.
But some of his strongest words were directed at the people behind the mission:
“Do not underestimate how good you are.”
“Take the opportunity to celebrate success.”
And simply:
“Be proud.”
Reflecting on the progress of the Division, GEN Carden emphasized that capabilities and technology matter, but the people serving here remain the most important part of the headquarters and its success.
