In the mountainous regions stretching across Baia Mare and Ivano-Frankivsk, harsh winter weather brings heavy snowfalls and dangerous black ice. Blocked roads don't just slow down traffic - they prevent ambulances and rescue teams from reaching citizens when every second counts.
Facing identical hazards - from scarce equipment to low public awareness - both communities realised that no single entity could handle severe weather risks alone. Through project , Baia Mare and Ivano-Frankivsk joined forces to create a complete, synchronised safety net.
Here is how this cross-border initiative is building resilience from the ground up:
• Deployment of backhoe loaders, chassis platforms, vegetation choppers, civil protection electric cars, and centralised electronic sirens to keep routes clear and citizens alerted.
• First responders and municipal teams from both sides are engaging in joint experience exchanges, local emergency simulations, and practical first-aid trainings.
• Interactive public awareness campaigns are equipping young adults and residents with essential safety skills during natural disasters.
• Aligning EU disaster prevention practices with local emergency operations for a lasting, cross-border defence.

🌍 European regions become stronger when they tackle challenges together. Here’s how we can improve the Interreg cooperation.

New analyses developed by the ESPON Programme map how cooperation works across the continent, from all 48 cross-border areas to the 13 transnational cooperation areas, covering everything from labour markets and transport links to shared rivers. The result: a solid evidence base to help shape cooperation after 2027.

🇷🇴 7th MICROFUTURE Stakeholder Meeting held in Romania

On 6 August, OIR PECU Bucharest-Ilfov, Lead Partner of the MICROFUTURE – Future Proof Microfinance for Social Inclusion project, brought together public institutions, financial sector representatives and social economy stakeholders to discuss progress and future perspectives.

💡 Key topics included the development of a new financial instrument for social enterprises, social impact measurement, the Theory of Change and continued stakeholder cooperation.

🤝 Under the message “From results to change. Together for the future of the social economy”, the meeting highlighted how cooperation can turn European project results into sustainable solutions for Romania’s social economy.

As MICROFUTURE enters its Follow-up Phase, the focus now shifts to monitoring policy change, impact and the implementation of the financial instrument.

🗣️Ce vor face ambasadorii?
Pe parcursul unui mandat de șase luni (1 octombrie 2026 - 31 martie 2027), ambasadorii selectați vor:
- Participa la întâlniri online lunare cu DG REGIO și echipa BFPN
- Produce conținut original, cm ar fi videoclipuri, podcasturi, articole sau evenimente locale
- Contribui la o prezentare de grup pe o temă transfrontalieră la alegere
- Publica un articol pe Futurium
- Primi un Certificat oficial de absolvire semnat de DG REGIO 🏅

Cine poate aplica?
Tineri care:
- Au vârsta cuprinsă între 18 și 30 de ani la momentul depunerii candidaturii
- Locuiesc într-un stat membru al UE sau într-o țară EFTA și au o legătură puternică cu o regiune de frontieră
- Vorbesc fluent limba engleză
- Sunt dispuși să se implice aproximativ 2 zile pe lună din octombrie 2026 până în martie 2027

If you're 18–30, live in an EU Member State or EFTA country, and have a strong connection to a border region, this is your chance to share your story and work directly with the European Commission on cross-border cooperation.

Apply by sending us a motivational letter and a short video on a cross-border issue and how to resolve it.
