SOAS Marxist Student Federation SOAS Marxist Student Federation are affiliated to the IMT and active in fighting for Marxist ideas

The SOAS Marxist Student Federation are affiliated to the Marxist Student Federation, Socialist Appeal and the IMT. We organise revolutionary students across the country in the fight for international socialism. We host regular meetings on current events, history, and Marxist theory. This is not as an academic exercise, but in order to arm us with the ideas necessary to change the world. We are ac

tive in the student movement, and have successfully run candidates in student elections on a bold socialist programme. We know that the student movement must link up with the wider struggle. We therefore support striking workers on picket lines, march on demonstrations, and build links with the labour movement.

One of the main reasons that radicalises people is their hatred towards oppression. The youth especially are sick of the constant culture wars in the tabloids, brutally attacks the oppressed. One marginalised group after another has been targeted by this government — migrants, women, trans people.

In our upcoming open meeting on Tuesday 9 December at 6:30pm, we will discuss how we once and for all can fight and end oppression. How the origins of it is deeply linked to the rise of class society and capitalism, and why the struggle therefore must to go hand in hand with the overthrow of capitalist system.

On Friday, student comrades from the RCP participated and spoke in a rally to protest against the attacks on the two SOAS students who has been suspended on the ground for ‘terrorism’.

Their crimes were simply speaking up agaisnt the genocide in Gaza.

SOAS, which so often portray itself as a progressive university, shows their true face when they are clamping down on students who actually are trying to fight imperialist wars and the oppression of Palestinians.

It is clear that the universities more interested making deals with arms companies then what they are of “free speech” and democratic right.

At the end of the day, this is what democracy looks like under capitalism- you can say whatever you like, as long it won’t threaten our profits.

We stand in full solidarity with the SOAS 2! An injury to one is an injury to us all.

- End the suspension of SOAS 2!
- student and staff- unite and fight!
- kick capitalism out of universities!

RCP Summer Camp 2025: ✅

Four days of tents and texts, where the mud clung to our boots and Trotsky to our tongues.
We studied the betrayals of Spain, charted the collapse of feudalism, and broke down the dynamics of capitalist crisis.

Every betrayal of the working class carries a lesson written in blood. From Kronstadt to Catalonia, from the degeneration of the Soviet Union to the failures of reformism, we draw one conclusion: without theory, the movement is blind. The past repeats until we intervene with clarity and organisation.

Marxist theory provides the only scientific method for understanding and transforming the world. It sharpens strategy, consolidates memory, and prepares the cadre for the struggles ahead. The decay of capitalism deepens with each passing day, and our task is clear: build the forces of Marxism and prepare for the future revolution.

Last night at our branch meeting, we discussed Engels’ Socialism: Utopian and Scientific.

The writing was a solid reminder that Marxism isn’t just about having good intentions or hoping for a better world. Engels takes socialism out of the clouds and puts it firmly on the ground, rooted in real history and real class struggle. He doesn’t try to appeal to the kindness of the ruling class or sketch out perfect societies, but instead shows us how capitalism came to be, how it will fall, and why the working class holds the key to building something new.

It’s not about having all the answers, but about understanding the method that helps us find them. Studying theory matters, especially if we’re serious about changing the world. 📚✊

We kicked off our first reading group session this week!

A few new faces joined us - people we met at a recent paper sale - and the discussion was wide-ranging. From how to fight capitalism to what socialism and communism could look like, we had a great political exchange even though we didn’t dive into the chapter this time.

Looking forward to building on this momentum next session! If you’re interested in joining, send us a DM ✊📚🌹

🔥 Yesterday, we took The Communist to the streets, engaging with workers and youth hungry for revolutionary ideas. After, we discussed a powerful tool in our arsenal: art and culture.

Under capitalism, art is commodified, serving profit over people. But in the hands of the working class, culture becomes a weapon for liberation. It educates, inspires, and unites us in the struggle against the bourgeoisie.

This is more than distributing papers or holding meetings. It’s about building a revolutionary culture that empowers the working class to envision and fight for a communist future.

🎨✊ Join us. Read the paper. Create revolutionary art. Be part of the movement.

Workers and young people hates the politicians. At yesterday’s sale in Russell Square Park, we asked people what they thought about Starmer, Farage, and Badenoch. No one had anything good to say about them. Instead, the responses we got was “They have the most punchable faces in the country”, or “They are all bad”. Most of the time people just laughed out loud. We had a number of good conversations. One of them was a trade union man, who had just got out of a meeting about Water Thames. He said it’s an absolute disaster what’s going on in the country and was particularly angry about the recent cuts on welfare benefits. He said, “Starmer has really messed up when it comes to PIP.”

Many were interested in what communists had to say about the political situation in Britain. All of them agreed that all politicians are only representing the rich. A couple of them bought out paper. All in all, a very interesting day to go for a sale in the park!

Are you fed up of capitalism and want a better way to live? Do you want to get organised? Join the RCP today! Links in bio.
