Dr. Yousef Alhorr, Founding Chairman of the Gulf Organisation for Research & Development (GORD), was among a select group of prominent figures celebrated by Place Vendôme through its newly launched “Rooted in Resilience” initiative – a community-focused campaign inspired by the Sidra tree and its enduring significance in Qatari culture.

The campaign’s launch included a special tree planting ceremony at Place Vendôme Mall, where Dr. Alhorr planted a SidraTree. A commemorative plaque featuring his name was also installed alongside the tree to pay a lasting tribute to his contributions to environmental stewardship and green building leadership.

The campaign draws its inspiration from the Sidra tree, a symbol of strength, protection, and endurance in Qatar’s heritage. Through the initiative, Place Vendôme sought to celebrate individuals whose achievements embody these values, while fostering a deeper connection between cultural identity, community engagement, and sustainable progress.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Alhorr expressed his appreciation for the initiative’s emphasis on cultural heritage and collective responsibility, highlighting the importance of preserving values that inspire future generations while advancing a more sustainable future.

Earlier roles in academia and industry leadership including senior positions at Qatar University and Barwa Real Estate sharpened his ability to move ideas from the lab and policy table into large scale deployment.

With a PhD in materials engineering from UMIST at the University of Manchester and advanced degrees from George Washington University and Qatar University, Dr. Alhorr combines scientific depth with institutional and entrepreneurial experience.

Inspired presents Dr. Yousef Alhorr as a climate‑innovation architect who builds the standards, institutions, and tools that make sustainability measurable, investable, and actionable across the region and beyond.
