📣🎉 Announcing the selected projects for the 2026–2027 Local Initiatives Fund 🇨🇦🇦🇺🇳🇿

Jointly supported by the Embassy of Canada, the Embajada de Australia en Argentina, Paraguay y Uruguay and the Embajada de Nueva Zelandia en Argentina, Uruguay y Paraguay, the Fund will support seven initiatives developed by civil society organizations in communities across Paraguay 🤝.

📌 Selected projects:
🔹 Iniciativa Amotocodie — Indigenous women at risk of gender-based violence, Bioceanic Corridor, Alto Paraguay Department, Chaco region
🔹 Aireana, grupo por los derechos de las lesbianas — Telephone helpline for vulnerable LGBTQ+ individuals, Asunción and Metropolitan Area, Ciudad del Este, and Encarnación
🔹 Pojoaju — Strengthening civic spaces for NGOs, Asunción and Central Department
🔹 Red Paraguaya de Artistas Lgbtq+ — LGBTQ+ Observatory and digital tools, Asunción with nationwide digital reach
🔹 Alter Vida — Environmental governance and digital evidence, Guairá
🔹 Centro de Documentación y Estudios (CDE) — Gender equality policies in municipalities, nationwide (5 departments)
🔹 Alma Cívica — Inclusive governance and democracy, Asunción and Central Department

Ambassador Wheeler was pleased to welcome Madame Zahra Kamil Ali, Representative of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie for the Americas, for a coffee discussion at the Embassy on efforts to promote the Francophonie in Argentina and Paraguay, and opportunities to strengthen collaboration.

Ambassador Wheeler also joined member and observer states of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie at the French Embassy in Buenos Aires for a broader exchange on shared priorities and the role of the Francophonie in advancing dialogue, cooperation, and cultural diversity.

We look forward to continuing to build bridges through the French language and the values that connect the Francophone community around the world.
