🔬 Investigadores del IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Kanpur y Woxsen University estudiaron cómo las plantas responden cuando el polen llega al estigma, determinando si será aceptado o rechazado.

🧬 El equipo analizó los ARN largos no codificantes (lncRNA) en Arabidopsis thaliana, comparando los cambios moleculares 10 y 60 minutos después de la polinización compatible e incompatible.

🇮🇳🌱 Diversity has long been nature’s way of preventing the harmful effects of inbreeding. Following this rule book, plants too have their own means of maintaining genetic diversity.

🔬 Researchers from IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Kanpur, and Woxsen University investigated how plants respond when pollen lands on the stigma, determining whether it is accepted or rejected.

🧬 The team studied long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in Arabidopsis thaliana, comparing molecular changes 10 and 60 minutes after compatible and incompatible pollination.

🌱 The study identified known and previously unidentified lncRNAs that may be involved in stress, defense, and self-incompatibility responses, offering clues to how plants regulate reproductive success.

🌾 Understanding these molecular regulators could eventually help identify markers or targets to improve fertilisation, breeding efficiency and seed production, with potential implications for crop yield.
