5 June is Constitution Day in Denmark - and the closest we come to a national day. It is the day where we celebrate and appreciate our democracy, and where we remind ourselves of the importance of actively passing​ on our civic rights and duties to the future generations 🇩🇰

The day is celebrated with flag-raising ceremonies, which often feature group singing, speeches, and local politicians engaging with their constituents 🇩🇰

This year's Constitution Day comes just days after Denmark formed a new government, making it a timely reminder of the importance of democratic institutions and civic participation.

Denmark has a new government 🇩🇰​

Mette Frederiksen has been re-elected as Prime Minister of Denmark.

The new minority government consists of the Social Democratic Party, Green Left, the Danish Social Liberal Party and the Moderates.

Lars Løkke Rasmussen continues as Foreign Minister.

Due to the general strike on Wednesday, the 3rd of June 2026, the embassy will be closed for in-person appointments. You can still contact the embassy by telephone or email during normal opening hours.

Please also be aware that the Embassy of Denmark in Lisbon will be closed on Thursday, 4th of June, due to a public holiday.

The Entry/Exit System marks a new era in border security.

29 European countries using the EES digitally record non-EU nationals travelling for short stays. They will hold reliable data on who crosses the borders with a foreign passport.
