World Rivers Day Walk Lisbon
September 25 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
World Rivers Day is on the fourth Sunday of September. We will walk a section of the “Ribeira das Marianas” river from 10 – 13h.
From the mountains
to the sea
I am the river
and the river is me
This is a Maori saying which defines the indigenous relationship the tribes there have with their river, the Whanganui. We are inspired by them and wish to explore how the legal breakthroughs they made in 2017 can be replicated around the planet. We all live in a river waterbasin, fixing our local challenges is the first step to a Regenerative response to create healthy bioregions. (1)
With the “Rede Rotas Vivas” (2) (Network of Living Routes) project in Cascais in Greater Lisbon, we will walk along the “Ribeira das Marianas” river, from the old Roman Ruins by Tires airport to the mouth of the river on Carcavelos beach. From there people can go to the GREENFEST in Nova Uni, or to the Cleanup in the Quinta dos Ingleses from 18:00 – 19:30 h.
Location of start – Roman Ruins / Villa Romana de Miroiço. To get there, get the M22 Bus from Carcavelos station, Leave 9,30, arrives 10,00 (23 min bus ride, 7 min walk) .
Walk will stop briefly to collect people at the following points and times: (see link)
