António Guterres, Secretário-Geral das Nações Unidas, e Catarina Vaz Pinto receberam Daniela Rocha, Coordenadora Executiva do Arouca Geoparque Mundial da UNESCO, e Artur Sá, Coordenador Científico do Arouca Geopark e Presidente da Rede Global de Geoparques, para um momento de diálogo e partilha sobre o contributo dos Geoparques Mundiais da UNESCO para a valorização do património, a promoção do conhecimento e a construção de um futuro mais sustentável.
A conversa centrou-se no papel dos Geoparques Mundiais da UNESCO enquanto territórios de conhecimento, educação, ciência e cooperação, onde a valorização do património geológico, natural e cultural se articula com os Objetivos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável e com o envolvimento das comunidades.
Foi também destacada a importância de uma abordagem integrada ao território, capaz de conciliar conservação do património, valorização das identidades locais e criação de oportunidades para as populações — uma visão que está na base do trabalho desenvolvido pelo Arouca Geopark.
O momento decorreu na Casa do Burgo, em Arouca, um espaço com cerca de quatro séculos de história associado à família Vaz Pinto, recentemente recuperado e integrado na rede de entidades privadas associadas da AGA – Associação Geoparque Arouca.
Uma conversa que reforça a projeção internacional do Arouca Geopark e o papel dos Geoparques Mundiais da UNESCO na construção de territórios mais sustentáveis, resilientes e comprometidos com as suas comunidades.

António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, and Catarina Vaz Pinto welcomed Daniela Rocha, Executive Coordinator of the Arouca UNESCO Global Geopark, and Artur Sá, Scientific Coordinator of the Arouca Geopark and President of the Global Geoparks Network, for a dialogue and exchange of ideas on the contribution of UNESCO Global Geoparks to heritage appreciation, the promotion of knowledge, and the building of a more sustainable future.
The conversation focused on the role of UNESCO Global Geoparks as territories of knowledge, education, science and cooperation, where the appreciation of geological, natural and cultural heritage is articulated with the Sustainable Development Goals and with the active involvement of local communities.
The importance of an integrated approach to the territory was also highlighted, one that can reconcile heritage conservation, the enhancement of local identities and the creation of opportunities for local populations — a vision that underpins the work developed by the Arouca Geopark.
The meeting took place at Casa do Burgo, in Arouca, a historic building with around four centuries of history associated with the Vaz Pinto family, recently restored and incorporated into the network of private partner entities of AGA – Arouca Geopark Association.
A conversation that further strengthens the international profile of the Arouca Geopark and highlights the role of UNESCO Global Geoparks in building more sustainable and resilient territories, deeply committed to their communities.
