Children and youth from the local community gathered in Al-Ain area, Battir, for an interactive environmental activity organized by the Palestine Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainability (PIBS), Bethlehem University, in collaboration with Battir Municipality, represented by Ms. Marهam Mammr, Librarian of Battir Public Library.
The activity was implemented as part of the project:
“Valorize Plants and Empower Local Community in Difficult Socio-Political Circumstances in Wadi Al-Makhrour KBA in Palestine,” funded by the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF).
Through observation, learning, and hands-on interaction, participants explored the exceptional botanical diversity of Battir and the Al-Arqoub area, with a particular focus on local plant species and rare and threatened flora. The activity highlighted the ecological importance of these species and the need for their conservation as an integral part of protecting the area’s natural heritage.
Environmental education plays a vital role in fostering a deeper connection between young people and their natural surroundings. When children learn to recognize and appreciate the plants of their land, they begin a new story of belonging, stewardship, and conservation.
ّع أطفال وشباب من المجتمع المحلي في منطقة العين، بتير، للمشاركة في نشاط بيئي تفاعلي نظّمه معهد فلسطين للتنوع البيولوجي والاستدامة (PIBS) التابع لجامعة بيت لحم، بالتعاون مع بلدية بتير، ممثلةً بالأستاذة مريم معمر، أمينة مكتبة بتير العامة.
نُفّذ هذا النشاط ضمن مشروع:
"تثمين النباتات وتمكين المجتمع المحلي في ظل الظروف الاجتماعية والسياسية الصعبة في وادي المخرور، المنطقة النباتية الرئيسية في فلسطين"، المُموّل من صندوق شراكة النظم الإيكولوجية الحرجة (CEPF).
من خلال الملاحظة والتعلم والتفاعل العملي، استكشف المشاركون التنوع النباتي الاستثنائي في بتير ومنطقة العرقوب، مع التركيز بشكل خاص على أنواع النباتات المحلية والنباتات النادرة والمهددة بالانقراض. سلّط النشاط الضوء على الأهمية البيئية لهذه الأنواع وضرورة الحفاظ عليها كجزء لا يتجزأ من حماية التراث الطبيعي للمنطقة.
يلعب التعليم البيئي دورًا حيويًا في تعزيز ارتباط الشباب ببيئتهم الطبيعية. فعندما يتعلم الأطفال التعرف على نباتات أرضهم وتقديرها، يبدأون رحلة جديدة من الانتماء والمسؤولية والحفاظ على البيئة.
