Some journeys are measured not only in years, but also in dedication, growth, and shared achievements...

Today, at the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Wrocław, Paulina Potok successfully defended her PhD thesis with distinction, an honor unanimously awarded by the committee, and officially earned the title of Doctor. This achievement marks the culmination of 8 years of scientific collaboration between Paulina Potok and her supervisor, Assoc. Prof. Sławomir Potocki - starting with bachelor's studies, continuing through master's studies, and leading to the successful completion of her doctoral journey.

The committee was chaired by Prof. Piotr Smoleński, while the thesis was reviewed by Prof. Iwona Łakomska (Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń), Prof. Piotr Pietrzyk (Jagiellonian University), and Prof. Marcin Sieńczyk (Wrocław University of Science and Technology).

It was a wonderful celebration filled with joy, emotions, and a true sense that the summer holidays had just begun. Family, friends, colleagues, and distinguished guests gathered to celebrate this special occasion together. Special thanks go to the committee, all attendees, and especially to Dr. Potok's parents and loved ones for sharing this unforgettable moment.

Sincere thanks go to all members of the Biological Inorganic Chemistry Group for their support and contribution to this success, and to Prof. Elżbieta Gumienna-Kontecka, Head of the Group, for her continuous support and leadership.

Wishing Dr. Paulina Potok every success in her professional career. It is great to see her scientific knowledge and expertise already being put to good use in industry. May this new chapter bring many rewarding challenges, continued success, and plenty of professional satisfaction!

Go, Dr. Potok! 🎉🎉🎉

Master's thesis defense week, one of our favorite weeks of the year! 🎓

Congratulations to Alicja Ciesielska and Barbara Janicka, Master's students supervised by Dr. Małgorzata Ostrowska, and to Ewelina Filipiak, Master's student supervised by Dr. Sławomir Potocki. It was a week full of excitement, fortunately, all of it positive! We are proud that all three students defended their theses successfully and wish them every success in their future careers!

A big thank you to the chairs of the examination committees, Prof. Wojciech Bury and Prof. Małgorzata Biczysko, for their time and commitment, and to the reviewers, Prof. Elżbieta Gumienna-Kontecka and Dr. Kamila Stokowa-Sołtys, for their insightful evaluations. We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to the PhD Students from the Biological Inorganic Chemistry Group for their hard work, dedication, and invaluable support in helping to produce such excellent Master's theses.

We hope that the knowledge and skills you gained at the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Wrocław, will serve you well and help you achieve many professional milestones. Good luck! 🍀

The 3rd French-Polish Chemistry Congress, held in Paris on July 1–4, 2026, brought together researchers from Poland and France to exchange ideas and discuss the latest advances in chemical sciences.

During the Congress, Dr Sławomir Potocki delivered an invited lecture entitled "Coordination Chemistry in Action: Strategies for Metalloprotein Inhibition".

We would like to thank Prof. Violetta Patroniak for the invitation and the Organizing Committee for the excellent organization of this outstanding scientific event!

From 1–3 July, at the Faculty of Chemistry we have had the pleasure of hosting the PacemCAT Mid-Term Meeting. 😸

PacemCAT (Catalysis for Peace) is an EU-funded MSC Staff Exchange initiative devoted to advancing research into solar fuels.
The PacemCat project aims to improve hydrogen production through photo- and electrochemical water splitting by developing more active and stable catalytic materials.

We were delighted to welcome researchers and colleagues from universities across Europe, including Hungary, Sweden, Greece, the Czech Republic, Romania, and Ukraine. During these three days, we discussed the project's progress, shared the achievements and contributions of each partner, exchanged ideas, and outlined the next steps for the months ahead.

Beyond the scientific discussions, the meeting was also a wonderful opportunity to strengthen collaborations, meet inspiring people, and enjoy many valuable conversations in a friendly atmosphere. 😊

We would like to thank all participants for their engagement and contributions to the success of the meeting, and dr Sotirios Kiokias - REA Project Officer for his valuable input and suggestions. We look forward to the next stages of the PacemCAT project and to continuing our collaboration! 💙🌍

Our PhD students, Karolina and Wiktoria, have recently completed a research stay at the Uppsala University in Sweden within the PacemCat project. 🤓🇸🇪

During their stay, they investigated photo- and electrocatalytic water oxidation using transition metal complexes, contributing to the development of more efficient and stable catalysts for sustainable hydrogen production.

During their internship, Wiktoria and Karolina were joined by Klaudia on 19–22 May, who came to perform advanced EPR measurements in liquid helium under the supervision of Dr Ping Huang.

It was an inspiring and highly valuable scientific exchange for everyone involved! 😊
