‘BIALOWIEZA - PALACE’ - RAILWAY STATION WITH HISTORY
In the middle of the Białowieża village, on the unused area of former historical ‘Białowieża – Palace’ Railway Station we would like to create the „Educational Park for Everyone – Walk of Fame of Białowieża Forest”.
‘Białowieża – Palace’ was a wooden, beautifully decorated Railway Station, build at the end of XIX century by the last Russian T
sar, who visited Bialowieza Forest by train. The station building was destroyed during the war. During almost hundred years, the train brought to Bialowieza visitors from all over the world … untill 1994. The last train arrived to Bialowieza in May '94, since that time the railway station fell down ...
EDUCATIONAL PARK FOR EVERYONE – 'WALK OF FAME OF BIALOWIEZA FOREST'
Through this projectwe want to achieve several goals:
- First of all, we want to give a 'second life' to the former XIX century railway station located in the center of the Bialowieza village
- Second, we want to bring life to the space as well as make it interesting and open to the public - a place where the village lives
- Third, we want to raise public environmental awareness, particularly on the importance of the Bialowieza Forest; its ecosystem; and its part of the entire Bialowieza community
We will make that by :
We will make the Project by several parts:
1. By building a Heritage Centre – we will reconstruct the building of the XIX-century railway station; it will function as wildlife and tourist information point, nature interpretation centre and cultural events planning.
2. By creating the educational trail „Walk of Fame of Bialowieza Forest” – an alley with casts of the animals footprints, the ‘stars of the forest’, and with natural size models of the animals located on the trail.
3. By installing the playground for children „Nature Trails”- this way whole families will be involved into games and plays.
4. By performing photo exhibition showing the Bialowieza Forest
5. By planting a garden of traditional herbs, shrubs and flowers – culturally attractive, and at the same time attractive for insects (bees, butterflies) and birds.
6. By planning different educational, nature and cultural events, such as festivals where local communities participate, and ‘green classes’ for local schools.
