A Five-Day Basic Biorisk Management (BRM) Training for Provincial TB Reference Laboratory staff of the TB Control Program was conducted by the Association for Biorisk Management (ABM) at the Tourmaline Hotel, Peshawar. The training aimed to strengthen participantsβ knowledge and practical capacity in identifying, assessing, and managing biological risks associated with TB laboratory work, with particular emphasis on biosafety, biosecurity, safe handling and transportation of infectious specimens, appropriate use of PPE, and preparedness for laboratory incidents, accidents, spills, and occupational exposure.
The training is expected to enhance the capacity of laboratory staff to apply effective Biorisk management practices in their routine activities, reduce the risk of laboratory-acquired infections and occupational exposure, improve compliance with laboratory safety procedures, and strengthen preparedness and response to laboratory emergencies. Overall, the training will contribute to creating a safer laboratory working environment and strengthening the quality, safety, and effectiveness of TB laboratory services under the TB Control Program.
