Orientation on the Analysis of Out-of-School Children survey conducted in UC Mamu Khatki

The Elementary & Secondary Education Foundation (ESEF), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, convened an orientation session on the findings of Household Survey for the Identification of Out-of-School Children (OOSC) conducted in Union Council Mamu Khatki, District Peshawar, in collaboration with JICA-AQAL, DOPASI and Local council.

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Qaisar Alam, Managing Director, ESEF KP, and reviewed survey coverage, identification of out-of-school children, data verification, preliminary findings, field-level challenges, and the way forward. Participants appreciated the comprehensive survey report and quality of household-level data, recognizing its importance for evidence-based education planning.

The Managing Director appreciated the efforts of all stakeholders and emphasized that reliable household-level data is essential for developing effective strategies to enroll and retain children who remain outside the education system.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Habib Ur Rehman, Director Programs; Mr. Wasil Nawaz, Deputy Director; Mr. Bilal Ahmed, Assistant Director (Accounts/Admin); Mr. Mohammad Asif Kasi, Provincial Coordinator, JICA-AQAL; Mr. Zahir Shah, DPO ESEF Charsadda; Mr. Naveed Ullah, DPO ESEF Peshawar; and a representative of Union Council Mamu Khatki. Mr. Muhammad Ilyas, Programme Specialist, Data Driven Management, JICA-AQAL, participated virtually via Zoom.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to complete data analysis on all the key indicators enabling targeted measures to enroll all OOSC into schools and make uc Mamu Khatkay as zero OOSC of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Progress Review Meeting with Psychologists

A Progress Review Meeting with Psychologists was convened in the Committee Room of the Elementary & Secondary Education Foundation (ESEF), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, under the chairmanship of Mr. Qaisar Alam, Managing Director, ESEF. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Bilal Ahmed, Assistant Director (Accounts/Admin), ESEF.

The meeting focused on reviewing the academic, psychological, and developmental progress of children experiencing learning difficulties, identifying their individual needs, and discussing appropriate support and intervention strategies.

The Psychologists presented their assessments and recommendations, emphasizing regular monitoring, timely intervention, individualized support, and effective follow-up.

The Chair underscored the importance of a child-centered and inclusive approach, along with close coordination among Psychologists, teachers, and relevant stakeholders to ensure effective support for every child.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to strengthening individualized interventions and monitoring mechanisms to help children overcome learning challenges and realize their full potential.

ESEF KP and ACT Sign MoU to Promote Life Skills-Based Education

The Elementary & Secondary Education Foundation (ESEF), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and ACT (Aiming Change for Tomorrow) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote Life Skills-Based Education (LSBE) among students.

The MoU was signed at the ESEF KP office by Mr. Qaisar Alam, Managing Director, ESEF KP, and Mr. Mubashar Nabi, CEO, ACT.

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Habib Ur Rehman, Director Programs; Mr. Bilal Ahmed, Assistant Director (Accounts/Admin); Dr. Salmana Zaman, Deputy Director QAAC; Dr. Faheem Abbasi, Education & Partnership Lead; Mr. Hameed Satti, LSBE Expert; Ms. Nadia Riasat, Programme Manager; and Mr. Adeel Shehzad, MEAL Manager.

Under the partnership, ESEF KP and ACT will work to strengthen students’ communication, critical thinking, decision-making, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills. The initiative aims to help students become more confident, responsible, and better equipped to address everyday challenges.

The collaboration is an important step toward strengthening quality, relevant, and holistic education through life skills development across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Handing-Over Ceremony of Educational Assets

A Handing-Over Ceremony of Educational Assets was held at the Committee Room of the Elementary & Secondary Education Foundation (ESEF), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to mark the formal transfer of educational resources from Handicap International (HI) to ESEF-KP.

Mr. Qaisar Alam, Managing Director, ESEF-KP, and Mr. Abdul Dayyan Yousafzai, Head of Office, KP, Handicap International (HI), Peshawar, formally signed the handover documents. The ceremony was attended by Mr. Habib Ur Rehman, Director Programs; Mr. Bilal Ahmed, Assistant Director (Admin/Accounts); Mr. Rustam Jamal, Project Manager; Mr. Jahanger Khan, Head of Program; and other representatives of ESEF-KP and HI.

The handover marks a significant step toward strengthening inclusive and accessible education and ensuring the effective use of educational resources for the benefit of children and communities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Both organizations reaffirmed their commitment to continued collaboration in promoting inclusive and equitable education across the province.

A progress briefing on the Phase-I outsourcing of low-performing government schools was held at the Elementary & Secondary Education Foundation (ESEF), KP, under the chairmanship of Mr. Qaisar Alam, Managing Director, ESEF.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Habib Ur Rehman, Director Programs; Mr. Shafqat Ul Mulk, Project Manager, PIU; Mr. Muhammad Khalid, Procurement Specialist, PIU; Mr. Roman Gul, M&E Specialist; Mr Said Zada Coordinator Outsourced School; and members of the Chief Secretary’s Technical Assistance Team.

Mr. Shafqat Ul Mulk briefed the participants on the status of the 500 schools under Phase-I and presented the roadmap for the next phase covering an additional 1,500 schools.

Under Phase-I, 445 schools are projected to be operationalized, while 55 schools are proposed for the next phase, subject to assessment. The meeting emphasized timely action and effective coordination to address operational and security-related challenges.

Quarterly NFE Technical Working Group Meeting | 19 August 2026

The Elementary & Secondary Education Foundation (ESEF), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in collaboration with JICA-AQAL, convened the Quarterly Non-Formal Education (NFE) Technical Working Group Meeting on 19 August 2026.

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Qaisar Alam, Managing Director, ESEF KP, and attended by Mr. Habib Ur Rehman, Director Programs, ESEF KP; Mr. Mohammad Asif Kasi, Provincial Coordinator, JICA-AQAL; Mr. Sajjad Haider, Programme Specialist – Policy and Research, JICA-AQAL; Mr. Muhammad Ilyas, Programme Specialist – Data-Driven Management, JICA-AQAL; Mr. Fayaz Uddin Afridi, Education Officer, UNICEF; Mr. Muhammad Arif, Director, DPD; and Mr. Muhammad Zikriya, DMD, MAEF.

Representatives from EMA, UNHCR, KP TEVTA, Workers Welfare Board, Textbook Board, Alkhidmat Foundation, DOPASI Foundation, DOSTI, WEO, Technical Testing Board, SRSP, IDEA, Khwendo Kor, NCHD, and Handicap International also participated in the meeting.

The meeting provided a valuable platform to review progress, deliberate on key technical matters, share institutional experiences, and strengthen coordination and collaboration among stakeholders working in the field of Non-Formal Education.

Participants engaged in constructive discussions on key priority areas and explored opportunities to further enhance the quality, accessibility, relevance, and effectiveness of NFE interventions across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of continued collaboration, evidence-based approaches, effective coordination, and knowledge sharing among partner organizations to address the educational needs of underserved and out-of-school children and communities.

ESEF appreciates all participating organizations and stakeholders for their valuable contributions, continued cooperation, and commitment to promoting inclusive, equitable, and quality education opportunities.

Through strengthened partnerships, effective coordination, and collective efforts, ESEF and its partners remain committed to advancing Non-Formal Education and contributing to sustainable, inclusive, and equitable learning opportunities for all across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
